Led by Bhikkhu Pannakara, the monks departed Rock Hill this morning and trekked along U.S. 21 through Fort Mill, stopping at Anne Close Springs Greenway. They'll arrive in Charlotte near Miller’s Flea Market in Pineville later today. As they entered Anne Close Springs Greenway before roughly 1,000 spectators, we witnessed a Paritta (Buddhist chant) and the tying of sai sin (a sacred string ritual), symbolizing protection, blessing, and the transmission of positive energy. From Pineville, they’ll continue up Westinghouse Boulevard to South Boulevard, making their way to their nightly stop at Marion Diehl Recreation Center off Tyvola. They’ll then walk through Plaza Midwood the following day, heading northeast, according to their map (check for updates). The monks are crossing 10 states on their journey (North Carolina is the seventh) from Texas to Washington, D.C., which began on October 26, 2025, and is expected to conclude on February 11, 2026. They are accompanied by their dog Aloka (whose name means light), a former stray from India, who first joined the monks on a previous peace walk, traveling over 1,864 miles. Though the Walk for Peace Buddhist monks will soon return to Texas, I know that their mission for lasting peace continues. It’s on all of us – from governors and local elected officials to national leaders and community voices – to carry on their mission in every step that we take. Thank you to them and the thousands of Marylanders who came to Annapolis to greet them and join in their message of peace.

I started to walk on the path to peace after I lost my parents on October 7th and after seeing it in my vision. Today I reached Washington DC on the same day as the Tibetian monks reached it after walking for peace from Texas. We are at Lincoln Memorial. As Lincoln said:" The best way to predict your future is to create it." And the the future we are creating is peace, because The Future Is Peace.
