To all these Protestants who claim you are former Catholics, and you say that the Catholic Church taught you not to read the Bible or that you should stay away from the Bible, and that you can't understand it, only the Church can, quit creating calumny and falsehoods. I have literally walked into Mass and they have Bibles out in stands. You can literally contact your diocese and they'll mail you a Bible, as well as the Catechism. I know because I've done it. Vatican II, even the Catechism of the Catholic Church, requires Christians to read the Bible, so just stop with the calumny. There are a lot of things I disagree with in the Catholic Church, but this is not one of them. So stop lying. The Catholic Church teaches to read the Bible. They have study Bibles. You can hear it in how deeply he understands the cross and the resurrection, even more than some people who were born into Christianity. That kind of insight doesn’t come from human effort alone, it’s the work of the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus promised to send to guide us into all truth and teach us all things. In the same way, whatever understanding I have of the Bible is not because I had a mentor or deep church exposure. I barely even used to attend church. Though I was born into a Christian home, I became zealous for the truth, to learn it and to unlearn anything about God that wasn’t truly Him. God saw that hunger, and He began teaching me through the Holy Spirit. This is why it’s possible for someone to become a Christian today and understand Scripture more deeply than someone who has been in church for 40 years. Truth is not about how long you’ve been around religion, it’s about a heart that is willing to be taught by God. Thank you Jesus for bringing him out of darkness into your light. 💡
