Walking is DIFFERENT than “exercise” biochemically but it’s absolutely critical to metabolic health. Walking is simply a body in low-grade motion, which is required throughout the day for optimal cellular function. I agree with her, but this isn’t the reason why Americans are more sick than other countries. Other countries work at desks too. Other factors are the poison in our food, medications, lack of food diversity, etc.

Four mile walk today on a beautiful Michigan nature trail. At seventy, I'm not running but fast walking. Also, I have AFib off and on and when it's off I'm out burning the miles. Diagnosed going on eight years.

Build pedestrian cities is my vote - dramatically enhance the practically nonexistent rail networks. Make public transit a viable and enjoyable alternative

The so-called 'exercise snacks' at home can also be considered, short periods of even just 10 minutes of functional exercises without stopping, medium to high intensity, possibly 2 sessions a day, but if you don't have time even once. Close to meals they can help bring muscles back to their full role as "glucose sink" and give additional results to what can be done more completely. If I can only train on weekends, i.e. only twice a week for time and work reasons, it is possible to overcome this ,with these daily mini-periods which can be inserted in the early morning before going to work, and in the late afternoon when returning.

Why do we need so much training? How many hours per day? To what purpose or end? Increased longevity? By how many years? “ through focused strength training, high intensity training, zone two training, etc…”

So well said. Only recently have I started to distinguish “exercise” from “movement.”

@Alan_Couzens Thank-you. My hope is that we will return to more walkable cities, to incorporate this into our daily lives without too much thought.
