Walking makes you more creative Daniel Pink says: "The research on walking is unbelievable. There's a famous study where they put people in a chair and they put people on a treadmill, and they do the "alternative uses for an object test." Basically, you give somebody something mundane like...

@david_perell This is interesting. Movement changes how the brain works. Many of my best ideas have come during simple walks, not while sitting at a desk. We underestimate how powerful small habits like walking can be.

In India, it is considered normal in dharma to leave home with your family’s permission and walk alone to seek deeper understanding of the world.

It is one of nature's most brilliant ways to elicit DMN-dominant activity. That's the brain in creative, ideation mode. Ideally, you want the walk to be slow and in a known area. That way, you can cut down on any external uncertainty or novelty and let it all emerge from within.

Interesting, I would have thought that the moving forward through space is what triggers neuron inputs, which gives you creativity. Maybe walking is associated with that in the brain. We could test weather treadmill creativity decreases over time Vs regular walking. Maybe the muscle movements also trigger sort of "entropy" in the brain, which causes creativity. @grok tell me if I'm wrong or right in one sentence.

Really supports Steve Jobs' desire to always have his meetings where thinking were required, - taking a walk.

@david_perell The health benefits of walking are incredible Astonishing that every physician doesn't end a consultation with a prescription to walk

One of my favorite things to do is walk and talk through ideas. Nothing fosters creativity like movement and exercise.

@david_perell This finds resonance in Vedic tradition too. Too much sitting produces tamas (inertia). Walking activates rajas (activity). A mind in motion generates more associations which is what is creativity.

Tucker goes on epic rant about modern life and nature: "The ruling party is the party of the childless, the unmarried, the people working for low wages for large corporations and living in tiny apartments in overcrowded cities that are rife with crime." "Who votes for the people who run the United States right now? People who are working for big banks, living in crowded conditions, very often alone, in big soulless cities, having their food delivered by immigrants, and spending their time glued to a screen. What does that sound like to you? It sounds like prison, actually." "Who are the people who oppose this? Where do they live and how do they live? Well, they are poorer generally on paper. But are their lives worse if you live in a place where you can see the sky? Where you can make your own food? If you can go outside and identify three species of trees or hear birds, or experience silence, the rarest commodity in the modern world. Those are the people who are not with the program. People who have a daily experience of nature. And those people are much more likely to acknowledge a power beyond themselves and their government. And there's a reason for that because they can see it. When you're living crowded as you would on an industrial farm as a cow, you are not liberated. You are enslaved. Your reference points are gone. You can't see the stars. You cannot see God's creation. All around you you see drywall and screens. And your ability to think clearly goes away."
