In lieu of using outdated solutions from centuries ago, we can implement intelligent technology, improve our asylum procedures, and focus on addressing the true causes of migration, especially in Central America. We must avoid wasting resources on costly physical barriers that can be easily bypassed with a $35 tool or simply dug under. It is no secret that Trump inherited a growing economy from the previous administration, but he failed to build on the progress made during those challenging times. Instead, he added a staggering $7.8 Trillion to our deficit, with little to show for it except for a mere 8 miles of new wall, which Mexico was supposed to pay for. Let us put an end to this disastrous wastefulness. Walls may seem like a simple solution, but they cannot address the root causes of our immigration issues. These stem from the social collapse occurring in the South and Central America, as well as the allure of the American life in the North. We need to start thinking more critically and innovatively about how we can tackle these issues in a comprehensive and sustainable way.
