This is brilliant. Washington State did an independent study on the effects of Plastic Bag bans, and concluded they produce more waste than just keeping plastic bags. Governor Jared Polis, take note. 🤡

A wise person once asked, "do you ever feel like a plastic bag?" Plastic bags are used for everything in North Carolina. You can't recycle them curbside. They get tangled in the sorting equipment and require costly repairs. And if you try to recycle them at stores, there's no guarantee they will actually be recycled. Three years ago, I put Apple AirTags in plastic bags that were placed in plastic bag recycling bins to find out if they were going to recycling centers. They weren't. Now, Mecklenburg County is creating its own plastic bag recycling program. You can drop them off at any of the county's recycling centers. The bags then go to Fiberon in Stanly County where they are transformed into deck materials.

Because I knew immediately that this would make zero difference in the environment (there is still plastic everywhere in the same grocery store that won't allow you to use it as a bag.) The ban makes a huge difference to moms and shoppers without cars or who take public transport. Everything California Democratic Party meddles in makes daily life harder. Everything.

Researchers in Auckland, New Zealand, have found that penguins are more drawn to interacting with harmful white plastic than plastic of other colors. This latest study, conducted at Auckland’s Kelly Tarlton’s Sealife Aquarium, adds to previous research showing that the majority of plastic found in seabirds’ guts is white in color. Dr. Ariel-Micaiah Heswall, a researcher at the University of Auckland, described white plastic as “a triple threat,” saying that “it’s found more commonly in the ocean, it’s found more commonly in their guts, but now it’s also preferred by the penguins.”
