🚨 WATCH: Andy Burnham says he will create a "global code" for AI so Britain can "capture the benefits" "We led the world's first industrial revolution from the Midlands and the North of England. So why can't we lead the next one? We can, and we will"

Which China and the US won't sign up to - just like Net Zero - and all will end up doing in leaving us behind in yet another tech race. Our politicians are fucking morons, they think we live in some sort of utopian world where everyone holds hands and skips.

What? We cannot handle this level of incompetence at such an important time. 'Global code'? What do you mean by that? Absolute and total meaningless nonsense said by someone who has no idea what they are talking about. As for why we are not leading the world as we did during and after the enlightenment, it's because we have incompetent, ill informed and frankly stupid people leading the country.

We can’t and won’t because our political class, yourself included, are allergic to making all the necessary reforms required in order to stimulate the sort of revolution you are talking about. You want MORE regulation and MORE barriers, not less, lol.

If we can't even get data centres built because of the cost of energy and opposition from NIMBYS we ain't leading bugger all. Like always, it will get bogged down in beaurocracy.

Translation = I have no idea how AI works or is ran but I’ll give a pointless platitude to make it sound like we’ve not been left behind as an AI consumer!

because we have the highest commercial energy in the world and it takes a decade to get through bat and newt surveys

Reasons the UK will never be an AI leader: - addiction to over regulation - tax structure causing a brain drain -high energy prices - AI is haram according to Islam - incompetent politicians

Lol

Why can't we lead the next one? a: We don't have the power infrastructure. France is the only country in Europe that does. I build hyperscale DCs for a living and power is the only gate. If we want to catch up, we need overprovisioned Nuclear yesterday.

We can't because the stock of people that made Britain great are being replaced by sub 80 IQ third worlders you thick fuck

We should be banning AI and banning the billionaires that own the companies. This idiot doesn't know what he's doing!!

Tax. Simple, we won't lead anything in any industry with the levels of tax involved.

Sort out the energy prices first

Im all for this but for that you need energy a lot of it. So make energy cheaper.

AI is brilliant, but I don't trust it in the hands of these bastards.

I'll tell you why, because the Labour Party is in power and that lot couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

We don’t have any AI companies. They are US or Chinese. What the Gov will do is become world leader in regulation for the lawyers. Britain is a leader in nothing only bullshit.

He couldn't capture his arse with both hands.

Just absurd denial. Who TF would invest in control freak UK?

>So why can't we lead the next one? I can answer that somewhat concisely. The entire UK power structure is almost exclusively constituted of idiotic communist luddites who hate entrepreneurs, hate technology and resent success.

Good luck powering it with wind farms

Not with our energy prices we can't.

Meaningless buzzword nonsense.

The industrial revolution comparison is a strong one, the North and Midlands did change the world last time. The harder question is whether a “global code” can actually keep the value here this time, or whether it just becomes another layer of process while the real capability still concentrates elsewhere.

We used to have competent and serious people with incentives to innovate and effort. Now we have third world parasites and an enormous public sector, both led by hectoring, inadequate MPs. That’s why not.

By telling civil servants not to say thank you at the end of AI prompts, we will lead the world in technology!

The guy is utterly deluded.

He will literally spout any old bollox , hes clueless

"So why can't we lead the next one?" We have the 5th highest industrial energy prices in the world. We have no advanced fabs. It takes a decade to get large projects past planning Karens and another decade to get past judicial reviews so construction can begin.

>Why can't we lead the next one? Welp Andy for starters we do not have a single superintelligence lab launching frontier AI models that compete with China, let alone the US. Everyone's a miserable NIMBY!

This was started by @RishiSunak and terrorists at Labour are peddling this as their own Burnham is a Muslim nonce

The UK trying to regulate Chinese and American AI companies is astonishing. The UK’s sense of its own influence is remarkable.

Because his insane energy costs make AI unviable in the UK and a "global code" will be ignored by all the big players anyway. Just pointless, meaningless soundbites.

We are a long way into the next industrial revolution. 8/10 of the world's richest people made their money in digital tech. The UK has not made as much as it could from that - for jobs, for building companies, for paying for public services. It would be easy for us to do so.
