Rajput says, "...The entire country respects the Supreme Court but I would also like to say that NCERT is an institution whose pupils occupy most of the big positions. NCERT imparted knowledge to them and charted their future...In this entire matter, I felt that the reputation of NCERT has suffered a blow. The words used by the Supreme Court - conspiracy, scandalous were not needed at all. If there were differences between the two institutions, they could have been called in and spoken with...This could have been rectified. NCERT amends its books every year as per the suggestions that come in...We are all humans and to err is human. Supreme Court too makes mistakes. When a person is acquitted after 15 years and it is said that they are innocent, imagine what would that individual feel. But nobody is taken to task for the incorrect judgment. A day after The Indian Express reported that the iconic “Dancing Girl” of Mohenjo-daro had been covered up in new Arts Education textbook for Class 9, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has decided to restore the original image of the Harappan-era bronze figurine. It is learnt that changes will be carried out immediately in the digital version of the textbook available on the NCERT website. Any copies yet to be printed will also carry the revised image. “From next year, it will be reflected in the hard copy too,” a source told this newspaper. The Education Ministry is learnt to have sought an explanation from NCERT on Monday (June 17) following The Indian Express report, after which the autonomous body was nudged to reverse the decision. “If the photo is already there in a Class 6 Social Science textbook, it doesn’t make any sense why the image was retouched for the Class 9 textbook,” a source familiar with the discussions said. And now it has come to a situation whereby the government of India is understanding that there is no recognition, respect or dignity for election Comission. So in order to give some semblance of dignity and recognition, now they are bringing election commission in the ambit of the textbook of NCERT... I don't think by making them a chapter in a textbook, anything can be regained or restored. First of all, they should behave and function like an independent institution to protect the democracy. Unless they do that, there is no point in bringing them as part of the textbook because their deeds should be judged..."
