PH, Japan Showcase Unified Naval Might in Bilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) launched a new phase of defense cooperation with the successful conduct of the 2nd Bilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA) on June 14, 2025, marking one of the first major joint activities following the recently ratified Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) between the Philippines and Japan. More than a maritime drill, the MCA underscored the operationalization of the RAA—an accord that lays the groundwork for increased joint training, humanitarian assistance, and disaster response (HADR) initiatives between the AFP and JSDF. This activity highlights the deepening trust and coordination between the two allies as they respond to traditional and emerging security challenges in the region. Participating Philippine assets included the BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG06), AW159 anti-submarine helicopter, PAF C-208 ISR aircraft, and Search and Rescue units. Meanwhile, Japan deployed the JS Takanami (DDG110) and an SH-60K Seahawk helicopter, demonstrating joint capability in a wide array of naval operations. The MCA featured key exercise serials such as communication check exercise, anti-submarine warfare exercise, cross-deck exercise, Division Tactics and Officer of the Watch Maneuvers (DIVTACS/OOW), Photo Exercises (PHOTOEX), and a Finish Exercise (FINEX), showcasing seamless interoperability between the two forces. PH, Japan Showcase Unified Naval Might in Bilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) launched a new phase of defense cooperation with the successful conduct of the 2nd Bilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA) on June 14, 2025, marking one of the first major joint activities following the recently ratified Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) between the Philippines and Japan. More than a maritime drill, the MCA underscored the operationalization of the RAA—an accord that lays the groundwork for increased joint training, humanitarian assistance, and disaster response (HADR) initiatives between the AFP and JSDF. This activity highlights the deepening trust and coordination between the two allies as they respond to traditional and emerging security challenges in the region. Participating Philippine assets included the BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG06), AW159 anti-submarine helicopter, PAF C-208 ISR aircraft, and Search and Rescue units. Meanwhile, Japan deployed the JS Takanami (DDG110) and an SH-60K Seahawk helicopter, demonstrating joint capability in a wide array of naval operations. The MCA featured key exercise serials such as communication check exercise, anti-submarine warfare exercise, cross-deck exercise, Division Tactics and Officer of the Watch Maneuvers (DIVTACS/OOW), Photo Exercises (PHOTOEX), and a Finish Exercise (FINEX), showcasing seamless interoperability between the two forces. AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr. emphasized the broader strategic significance of the exercise, “This cooperative activity is more than a display of maritime capability—it is a manifestation of our enduring commitment to uphold peace, stability, and a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific. PAF CONTINGENT ARRIVES IN KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA TO PARTICIPATE IN EXERCISE SPEARS OF VICTORY-2026 19 January, 2026: Pakistan Air Force contingent comprising F-16 Block-52 fighter aircraft, alongside dedicated air and ground crew, has arrived at King Abdulaziz Air Base, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to participate in the multinational aerial combat Exercise Spears of Victory-2026. The exercise is witnessing the participation of fighter jets and combat support elements from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, France, Italy, Greece, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. It offers a robust platform to enhance interoperability, operational synergy, mutual understanding and capacity building among participating Air Forces, particularly in large force employment, night composite air operations, integrated ISR, and operations in advanced electronic warfare environments. Through participation in this multinational forum, Pakistan Air Force seeks to enhance interoperability with partner Air Forces, and validate its operational preparedness in a contested, technology-driven battlespace. For this international deployment, PAF fighter aircraft undertook a non-stop flight from their home base in Pakistan to Saudi Arabia, demonstrating the long-range operational reach and expeditionary capabilities of Pakistan Air Force. During the conduct of the exercise, PAF pilots flying advanced F-16 Block-52 aircraft equipped with modern avionics and Beyond Visual Range capabilities will be pitched against aircrew of participating Air Forces operating a wide array of sophisticated combat aircraft. Only weeks after U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated during his visit to Manila, that the United States is committed to the defense of the Philippines where it will soon deploy the Navy Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS). U.S. Marines with the 3d Marine Littoral Regiment (3d MLR), based at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, were spotted yesterday at Cagayan North International Airport in the Northern Philippines, unloading equipment including several NMESIS Launchers. The 3d MLR, which was provided with a number of NMESIS Launchers last year, will reportedly participated in Exercise Balikatan 25 in the Philippines between April 21 - May 9, which is an annual joint-exercise to simulate the defense of the Philippines against aggression from China. In addition to the Australian Defense Force, for the first time the exercise will also include the Japan Self-Defense Force as well as 16 observer nations, which includes Brunei, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, United Kingdom and Vietnam.
