WATCH: Microsoft unveils its Surface laptop called Ultra, a high-end laptop powered by Nvidia chips and built to run AI agents on the device instead of in the cloud

The focus on running AI agents locally instead of in the cloud is a massive shift, and we actually went deeper on the hardware specs here:

If developers can run 24/7 AI coding agents locally on a machine instead of burning API credits in Azure, the upfront $2,600 price tag actually makes financial sense

The bigger story here is that Microsoft is pushing AI from the cloud onto the PC itself. If local agents become powerful enough, that could reshape cloud-compute demand while making privacy and latency a much bigger selling point.

Microsoft's own note has pre-orders from $2,599, shipping from October 16, built on Nvidia's RTX Spark with up to 128GB of unified memory and about 1 petaflop of AI compute. The desk-bound Dev Box starts at $5,999.
