Today marks the second day of the World Cycling Championships in #Rwanda. The world is watching our country with excitement,but many of us cannot ignore the serious human rights concerns at home or the credible #UN reports accusing the Government of Rwanda of backing the #M23 rebels in eastern Democratic republic of #Congo where countless civilians especially women and children have been killed or subjected to sexual violence. The contrast with #Russia’s war in #Ukraine is striking.When Russia invaded, governments and sporting bodies quickly imposed sanctions and banned #Russian athletes. Yet when #Rwanda is accused of fueling a deadly conflict across its border, the international reaction is far more muted.
