Do we all really think it sees hand signals, or just reacts based on the person’s movement/sign flip? I still haven’t noticed any true correlation between hand signals and car behavior. There’s always some other variable at play. In this case, could easily have just been the worker’s movement out of the car’s path. Both things happen around the same time. Has anyone completely isolated the hand signal specifically, and proven that when only a handle signal gesture is given, the car reacts?

Pretty confident it was responding to the hand signal. The car started moving forward even though the guy hadn't flipped the sign and while he was still in the way in the road.

Idk. The person in this video is always moving while signaling. Still not convinced. I need to see total hand signal isolation before I’m convinced 😂 every video I’ve seen has some other variable happening simultaneously

Robert the constructor gonna get to the bottom of it

But it looked like the driver had to step on the gas, no?

Profilbild von Sawyer Merritt
Sawyer Merrittvor 2 Monaten

No. I just hovered my foot over the pedal in case I needed to press it, but I didn’t need to because the car responded to the worker.

This is not something new, my much earlier FSD version was responding to traffic police officer signals.

I know. I'm just showing the Model Y L doing it too

I’ve had very inconsistent results with hand gestures. Sometimes it seems like it does see them and others it completely ignores it and I have to tap the accelerator

This scenario I have not gotten used to yet. I get nervous. I’m gonna run them over..

I wonder if the AI feels good about itself when someone waves a thanks for letting them in

100% those workers assumed the person in the seat followed his orders

No other personally owned car can do this. We take it for granted.

I wish I got it on video, but I was summoning my car and stepped infront of it twice to test reaction time. It froze after the second time, and I waved it forward and it instantly started to move to the target! Really shows that they unified Summon and FSD.

So this car will react to hand signals? So I can just put my hand up in the "stop" gesture and stop a tesla from moving?

Interpreting physical hand signals in real-time is huge. Edge cases like construction workers or traffic directors are usually the hardest part of vision-only autonomous driving.

FSD has been reacting to hand signals at our church for months. I'm fact yesterday they didn't give us the turn here, and the car went straight. Really surprised me

Cool tech, but hand signals vary by region. How does it handle non-standard ones?

Video of my first drive impressions of the Tesla Model Y L Premium Long Wheelbase. It has adaptive damping that noticeably improves ride comfort on bad roads versus the shorter Model Y Premium (LA is a great place to test this lol). While the new Model Y Performance also has adaptive damping, that is tuned more for sportiness. The Y L dampening is tuned for comfort, and even on the 20" Uberhelix wheels, it soaks up the bumps really well. The Model Y L also benefits from updates to Tesla's adaptive system controls, which improve the accuracy and latency of their actuator control. The Model Y L doesn't feel all that noticeably larger than the Model Y while driving it, but what is immediately noticeable is the improved rear view out the back window from the review mirror. Due to the shape of the glass and the rear, you get a taller, more expansive view. It's very quiet in every row, and the Y L even features improvements in this area versus the current Model Y. There is a new "Rear Comfort" setting that is exclusive to the Model Y L. Basically what that does is it prioritizes ride comfort for second and third rows over optimal steering and handling and first row comfort. My wife said it was her favorite second-row experience of any Tesla she's ever been in (which is all of them). The Model Y L just feels really refined overall. The driving dynamics, sound dampening, suspension, FSD, etc, it all just feels really dialed in, and I think when you test drive it, you will agree. As for FSD, I got to try FSD V14.3.7, and it's as you'd expect: amazing. I'm going to post a couple separate dedicated FSD videos later today.
