Watch these 24/25 Barcelona counter-attacks again. Notice something. The structure is already there. The midfield progresses. Yamal manipulates the defence. The runners attack space. The missing piece is the No. 9. If Flick wants to build a truly fluid attack, the striker can’t just occupy centre-backs. He has to...

A very harsh threat, made by Netanyahu toward Iran. What is behind the heightened tone? It is not only harsh, it is also unusual. The event that took place in recent months was a paralyzing fear of what is called miscalculation. They will think that we will attack first, even though that was not the intention, and then they will attack, and the entire region will be dragged into another round of confrontation. In a region where there is fear of miscalculation, you are not supposed to announce this kind of thing in the Knesset. I just want to make that clear. Yesterday, Naftali Bennett promoted his press conference on the conditions of soldiers, okay? He gets six million views because the timing looks like a countdown and he is a former prime minister, so the Iranians are in hysterics that he is actually announcing that they are going to attack. That’s the atmosphere. So when Netanyahu attacks like this and makes an unprecedented threat—not only harsh but also unusual—one can’t help but think that for Netanyahu there is a message, or something more problematic than miscalculation. And he wants to warn the Iranians. Now, what’s the issue? The issue is that if the Iranians come to the conclusion that their regime is on the verge of collapse, there is one thing that might save them. And that is an attack on Israel. Because we saw during the war what is called “rally around the flag.” Even those who were in the opposition rallied around the flag when their country was attacked. It is not only the Islamic Republic that is under attack, but also the Islamic Republic of Iran. That is essentially the issue, and that is what Netanyahu, in my opinion, is trying to stop with the threat he issued after the security discussion.

The build-up to Kaizer Chiefs’ second goal is a perfect example of why having a profile capable of functioning between the lines is so important when trying to create bigger attacking moments. Baartman was making the forward runs to support Ighodaro as the 9 and add numbers into the box, but Chiefs lacked enough presence between the lines to combine, manipulate and disrupt Sekhukhune’s defensive block. For long stretches, we were reduced to harmless circulation despite controlling possession. A 10’s willingness to occupy those spaces and half-spaces forces defenders into difficult decisions. Look at the sequence leading to the second goal: ■ First, Phili and Nkgwesa combine to connect with Mdu, who receives between the lines, turns and immediately looks for a penetrative pass. It is intercepted, but the intention is clear. ■ Seconds later, Mdu makes the same movement again into space. This time, the CB follows him, leaving space behind the defensive line. Mdu spins into that space, Ndlovu recognises it and threads a perfectly weighted through ball. Mdu gets in behind and finishes calmly. That is the value of using space intelligently. But, most importantly, the quality of finishing is very important because all this won't matter if we do not finish the chances we create. Mdu didn’t need to touch the ball repeatedly to influence the attack. His movement alone manipulated the defensive structure, created separation and opened the kind of penetration Chiefs had lacked for long periods against Sekhukhune. Possession gives you control. But occupying the right spaces gives you access to the goal. We need to improve this balance📝

🚨Sergio Busquets on Rodri rejecting Real Madrid for Barcelona. 🗣️ “I said it years ago when people kept asking me who should inherit the position once I left. Rodri was always the first name that came to mind. Not because it was fashionable or because of the medals, but because of the way he sees the game. We are different players in body and intensity, but the football intelligence is similar. I controlled matches through positioning, timing, and reading the next two or three moves before they happened. Rodri does that too, only he adds physical presence, more verticality, and the ability to cover larger spaces without losing the structure. He can break a press with one pass or simply carry the ball through it. That combination is rare. Under Hansi Flick the fit becomes even clearer. Flick’s Barcelona is not the pure positional possession of previous years, and it is not pure chaos either. It is a system built on aggressive pressing triggers, quick transitions, and a midfielder who can both protect the back line and launch the attack in the same sequence. He wants a pivot who understands when to slow the game and when to accelerate it, someone who can receive under pressure between the centre-backs and still find the free man between the lines. Rodri already does this at the highest level. In Flick’s structure he will have more freedom to step forward because the team will be organised around him. The distances will be shorter, the pressing will be more coordinated, and the moments to dominate the midfield will be clearer. He will look even more decisive than he already is. Madrid thought this race was finished a long time ago. They always do. They believe the badge, the history, and the money are enough to close every deal. The reality is different. Barcelona still has a pull that pure financial muscle cannot always match. The only times they consistently edge us in these situations is when they start adding extra payments to agents, relatives, and intermediaries to force the player’s hand. Without that, the footballers who actually understand the game and the culture of a club tend to choose differently. Rodri just made that choice. He looked at both projects and decided where he wants to play his football.

🇮🇷🇺🇸 Glenn Diesen: Iran may no longer let America decide when the war starts For months, the U.S. has held one enormous advantage over Iran: escalation control. Washington can attack, pause, move toward diplomacy, then potentially attack again when conditions are more favorable. Glenn Diesen thinks Tehran is increasingly determined to take that option away. “If the U.S. know they can just stop the fighting whenever they want, then why not try another attack here or there?” His argument is that Iran may now move toward something considerably more dangerous: striking first when it sees preparations for another major U.S. or Israeli attack. Refueling aircraft assembling. Runways becoming active. Forces moving into position. “There's no reason to wait.” Diesen argues Tehran may not even consider such action a preemptive strike because, from its perspective, the war never actually ended. That may also explain the increasingly aggressive behavior around American warships. Diesen believes Iran may previously have avoided hitting them not because it lacked the capability, but because killing large numbers of U.S. sailors would force Washington dramatically higher up the escalation ladder. Now, he says, Tehran appears to be signaling that restraint may have limits. The strategic shift is subtle but potentially enormous: Iran isn't merely trying to deter the next American attack. It's trying to deny Washington the ability to choose when it happens. Glenn Diesen
