watchOS 27.2 beta 2: App Switcher is back! While being inside an app, press and hold at the bottom of the display to bring it up. However, it doesn’t feel that intuitive on a small display like this. I’d rather have the old method of double-pressing the crown.

This video takes you inside the Galaxy Z Fold8's inner display. The biggest change this year isn't just the crease. It's the overall feel of the display. It looks remarkably similar to a tablet, with the appearance of a rigid panel rather than a flexible one. On many foldables, even the areas away from the crease still show subtle ripples and unevenness, giving away the flexible nature of the screen under certain lighting. The Galaxy Z Fold8 is different. Its entire inner display is exceptionally flat. Once unfolded, it looks and feels much closer to a traditional rigid display than a flexible panel. This is likely thanks to Samsung doubling the thickness of the UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) and reinforcing the display with a titanium support plate. The thicker UTG improves overall rigidity, while the titanium layer provides stronger structural support, resulting in a noticeably flatter display with a more premium, tablet-like viewing experience.

I was able to get my hands on one of these cool displays! The display is very nice AND it has a street pass feature! Its only available in China and the menu/app is in Chinese as well but pretty intuitive. Would you want one? Maybe we will consider bringing them to the US 🤔

Very hard kick but something to note: I’ve never loved tilting a rugby ball like this. The thinking is that it opens up the “sweet spot” of the ball, for a cleaner strike. But I’d rather have the seam aiming at the middle of the posts. Just me though…

Just a reminder at how cool immersion cooling can look like. This past week at Computex I've had a couple of conversations about it, if it's good or relevant. The short answer is that even with the PFAS removed, and it being on display for 10+ years, no-one wants to buy it.

So it turns out, it's more than just the name that Apple borrowed. iPhone Duo is the first folding phone I've seen copy the Surface Duo's unique multitasking and windowing system pretty much 1:1! iPhone Duo can treat each half of the folding display as separate, letting you dock an app to one side and view your home screen on the other, just like Surface Duo. The gestures for multitasking are identical between iPhone Duo and Surface Duo too. You drag an app to the side you want and it fills that half of the screen. You can pick the app up and move it to the other side, and everything will dynamically adjust. It even does the "automatic" multitasking that I've raved about on Surface Duo. If you open a link in an app, it'll move the app over and open the link in your browser. Surface Duo did this, and now iPhone Duo does too. I've been waiting for a folding phone to copy the Surface Duo's unique multitasking and windowing behavior, and we finally have one in the form of iPhone Duo. Well done, Apple. Between the wide form factor like Surface Duo, the pen support like Surface Duo, and now the multitasking like Surface Duo... I think Surface Duo fans may have finally found their Surface Duo 3 in iPhone Duo.
