Water runway testing is part of aircraft certification, and the Airbus A350 goes through it here. The aircraft is driven through a test section containing at least 22 mm of standing water, with speeds increasing from about 111 km/h to 259 km/h. The ocean off Cabo does not care how good of a swimmer you are and this video is proof - this guy jumped off the boat and that current grabbed him and made the swim back feel like it lasted a lifetime. You can see him fighting to get back and it is not until you watch it that you realize just how fast the water can take you somewhere you never planned to go. And let us not forget Cabo is known for shark activity in those waters - a rope, a float, anything thrown in the water at that moment could have been the difference between a story he tells and one nobody ever hears. The current alone was dangerous enough but being that far from the boat in open ocean water with everything swimming beneath the surface is a completely different level of risk that most people never think about until it is too late. Glad he made it back. Are you a good swimmer? That one could have gone a whole different direction.
