We are launching a new feature on Poe today: user-created bots. This initially allows anyone to create a new bot based on a short text prompt and an existing bot used as a base. We currently support Claude instant and ChatGPT as base bots.

We’ve seen a lot of great experimentation with prompts on LLMs both among the community on Poe and across the internet, and it’s amazing how much value prompting can unlock from language models.

We hope this new feature can help people who are talented at prompting share their ability with the rest of the world, and provide simple interfaces for everyone to get the most out of AI. Some examples bots we've created:

We’re looking forward to seeing what you’ll create as well! Some benefits of using this as a creator:

People using your bot will have the same easy-to-use Poe UI across all devices, including iOS, desktop web, and mobile web on Android. We take care of syncing conversation state across devices and persisting user history.

Each new bot gets an easy-to-share URL at . You can share it with friends to test it out, or publish the link anywhere on the internet to share it with the world.

Within Poe, people have access to bots they’re following or have recently used from the sidebar so they can easily get back to your bot later. And we’ll highlight the best bots to everyone so they get more exposure.

We cover the costs of operating all this, including the LLM fees, which can be quite expensive for an individual if a bot gets popular. And you’ll get feedback on how people are using your bot, so you can iterate on improving it over time (we’re still working on this part).

Note that creating a bot through this method just requires writing a natural language text prompt and does not require any programming.

We are separately developing an API that will allow anyone to host a bot from a server they operate, which will allow more complex bots. If you are interested in beta testing that, please contact [email protected].
