We are planning for a possible Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) beginning on March. 14 around 2 p.m., impacting customers in Boulder and Jefferson counties. Weather conditions are expected to start improving around 5 p.m., March. 14, though high winds that may create wildfire risk and cause outages are... show more

CO is windy. Preemptively shutting off power in any situation should be illegal.

You mean protecting shareholder dividends because you wont bury cable

Ridiculous. Over a span of 40 years, I’ve run a business in Fort Collins and never had any issues with wind or power outages. What changed? Completely ridiculous and hard to run a business when you can’t keep your power on. Worst power provider in the USA. @XcelEnergyCO sucks!

You need to update your technology. Why can CORE do without these shutoffs and you can’t?

How about you update your infrastructure instead

I don't understand . Why is this happening now after many years with wind and no problems. Has XCEL not done the standard maintenance needed?

I understand the concern. This isn’t due to missed maintenance. What’s changed is the level of wildfire risk caused by extreme wind and dry conditions. Even well‑maintained equipment can become dangerous in these situations, so Public Safety Power Shutoffs are used as a last‑resort safety measure to help prevent wildfires.

Wouldn't it be more productive to bury power lines in high wind areas and keep us a 1st world country instead of blackouts similar to a 3rd world country?

Refund us some of your billions in profits, thank you.

this is not a winning strategy

I finally figured it out @XcelEnergyCO You spent so much money on DEI hires that you cannot afford insurance or to update your dilapidated infrastructure. Bury your overhead lines, FFS. Ridiculous.

I really need to understand if my company will be effected by this and you’re going to wait until the morning to let us know if we will have power or not? That is absolutely ridiculous

I understand your frustration. We don’t wait to share information intentionally. PSPS decisions depend on real‑time weather conditions that can change quickly, so we may not be able to confirm impacts until closer to the event. This helps prevent unnecessary outages while still protecting public safety. Customers will be notified as soon as a final decision is made.

You forecasted the last one almost 4 days in advance

We need to replace Xcel Energy with local power providers.

bury the fucking lines you cheap bastards. the only thing unplanned about these outages is that you didn't plan - or budget or staff - for outages that you know will happen. if it costs too much to staff for these eventualities. TOO FREAKING BAD. get out of the business.

Xcel energy you need to communicate better other than social media

We understand the frustration. PSPS updates are shared through calls, texts, emails, our website, outage map, and local media—not just social media. We’re continuing to improve communication and advance notice.

@runningbean3 How about the current outage that your "communication" claimed would be resolved by 2:00pm, it's now 6:00pm and you have not bothered to update. So, maybe stop lying

Please DM us your full service address and we report the power outage and reply with any information we have available concerning the power outage. You may also view outage information online at

@jeffcosheriffco @jaredpolis you let this keep happening you will have violence in the streets of CO it’s only a matter of time

@DanishDesign Xcel should not be getting paid to get clicks about posting warnings.

Lick my balls. for every hour its off every time, it best be taken OFF MY BILLS. Your a JOKE of a service provider.

We understand how important reliable electric service is to you. A customer is not charged for electricity when not using it or during times of an outage. Services are being disconnected for safety for our customers and our equipment.

Good this is TWICE NOW TODAY. I swear to fucking god if my pc got fucked up from this shutoff that just happened. YOU. WILL. Be buying ME a NEW one. FUCK YOU. And your JOKE OF SERVICE.

Im in the middle of COLLEGE HW last thing i needed was this.

Either up your insurance or fix your old infrastructure. We all know you overcharge and have the $$.

What to do people do when they have medical equipment they rely on uses electricity!

I understand why this is a serious concern. Customers who rely on medical equipment are encouraged to have backup plans in place for outages, including those related to potential PSPS events. We know this is stressful and don’t take these decisions lightly.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise. Operation Over-React is in full swing again. @jaredpolis, how about you and the PUC do your jobs and reign this insanity in?

Why is Wyoming so much better at this than Colorado?

@jeffcosheriffco “Especially if you use medical equipment that requires electricity” …. 😑

What about the reports that over loading of the lines causes the lines to stretch thus causing the wind problems that wouldn’t be an issue if the entire grid wasn’t overloaded?

Power lines are designed with built‑in safety clearances and are not stretched or made unsafe by customer demand. Wind‑related outages are typically caused by severe weather, trees, or debris—not an “overloaded” grid. That’s why investments focus on grid upgrades, maintenance, and vegetation management to improve reliability.

This science says the more load you put on overhead wires the more the wires will droop or become longer.

I love listening to the whining…. This will continue to happen. So better get used to it.

There is still snow in the foothills and the wind forecast for the 14th is 25mph. Why would there be a PSPS on the 14th?

This is fucking insane

Wind is normal, why now is it a big deal? Don't give me the wildfire excuse. I expect to see a credit on future bills for this.

@jeffcosheriffco @XcelEnergyCO we have been out since 8 am this morning with a 2:30 restoration and now it’s 11:30 PM in Evergreen. Half the area is restored. When will you get it back on or are you going to let us wait until Sunday. The winds are minimal right now.

Charge up your battery backups and prep your 12 volt overlanding coolers to store medications.

You guys are not good people

🖕

You'll replace the ruined food in my refrigerator, right?
