Based on current forecasts of extreme wind and critically dry conditions, a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) will be required for customers in Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Jefferson, Larimer and Weld counties on Friday, Dec. 19, beginning as early as 5 a.m. Weather conditions are expected to start improving... around 6 p.m. Friday evening, though high winds that may create wildfire risk and cause outages are expected to continue through the evening. As with yesterday’s weather, there may be unplanned outages outside of the PSPS event due to high winds or Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings. It's actually not required. Why have you not been spending your time and money burying power lines and making a more robust infrastructure, instead of just flipping a switch off and telling 100s of thousands of people to just deal with no power?

It’s not acceptable to shutdown schools for three days because it’s windy. I understand the risks of wild fires is real and should not be taken lightly but this is a complete overreach.

You act like power lines were down all over the place yesterday and today. They... WERE NOT. Furthermore, the winds here in CO were nowhere near the winds in WY and guess what kiddies, power stayed ON through the entire 36 hours.

The decision to turn off power during a PSPS is based on wildfire risk across the entire region, not just conditions at one address. Even if your neighborhood seems calm, your power lines may be connected to areas with extreme fire danger. If any part of the circuit runs through high-risk zones, we shut off power to prevent sparks that could start a wildfire. Why can't you send out notices to customers when power is restored? I got back to my place tonight in Golden and I was dead had no idea I had power. If I go to a friends house for the weekend, I would like to have a notification like hey your power is back on!
