Support: At the peak of the famine, men, women, and children were all risking their lives to travel to aid distribution sites to collect just a little flour, enough to feed their families for a day. We saw 25kg bags being sold for $3,000 each. People lost limbs and lives to get wheat flour to help their families live another day. And now The Sameer Project will provide this service, making and giving out leaves of bread, of course for free. People don’t even have the 3 shekels required for a bag of bread. Our bakery is now closed. We are producing zero bread for families in Gaza. This is particularly difficult to come to terms with when we remember what people have sacrificed throughout this genocide just for flour. Bread equals survival. When there was nothing else to eat, Palestinians risked, and so many lost, their lives trying to bring home enough flour to feed their families. We were so proud to build something sustainable in the North: a bakery families could count on for free bread. At full operation, we distributed up to 500 bundles every day - 10 loaves each, 5,000 loaves baked, so that 500 families were able to feel some relief knowing they had at least the bare minimum to eat. And we can scale up even further to 10,000 loaves per day. The ovens are there. The bakers are there. The families are waiting. The only thing standing between a closed bakery and thousands of loaves of free bread is funding. It costs just over $1,000 per day to operate our bakery and provide around 500 families with bread. These were the first few moments of unadulterated childhood happiness when the first rainstorm of the season hit and kids were running through the streets playing in the puddles. Innocence meets youthful ignorance, unaware of the serious repercussions and problems this first storm would bring. It was a heavy and pounding storm, ushering the Winter months in with a bang. This year, everyone in Gaza was praying the rain would be delayed, hold off until the promised shelter entered the Strip, but unfortunately that was not the case. The rain fell, hard, and with it makeshift shelter were swept away in the winds, families were soaked, food supplies kept in the tents ruined, and more loss incurred. The rains have subsided today in Gaza, but this storm was a warning of what is to come and how much work we have to do. Donate to the “Give Warmth to Gaza” initiative in our Return Home Campaign. There are four World Central Kitchen warehouses in Jordan filled with food for the people of Gaza….rice, oil, flour, vegetables…over 100 trucks loaded and ready to arrive to the border crossing in less than an hour. Please read‼️Khartoum Aid Kitchen started out almost 4 months ago as a pilot project between me and my Cousin Yaseen where we served one pot of fortified lentil stew with bread in the Hitana neighbourhood of Omdurman to 80 needy families (400 individuals). Today our Hitana kitchen has expanded to feed 1,600 hungry people everyday. Me and Yusuf wanted to replicate the success of the Hitana Kitchen across Khartoum State so we worked hard to expand our operation. Today the Khartoum Aid Kitchen initiative is the largest community Kitchen operation in #Sudan and has 23 community kitchens affiliated with it. We have hundreds of hard working volunteers and we feed 15,000 hungry people a day and are working to reach more. In addition to this we are also providing food assistance to thousands of those who have been displaced from Khartoum State. We receive no funding from NGO’s or Governments and are completely dependent on your donations in order to continue our vital work. While we prepare the meals, they patiently sit inside and outside, as if they know their food is on the way. Look at this furry fellow, constantly observing the preparation. It almost feels like he’s auditing the process, giving signals to the other dogs that everything is going well and food will soon be served. We feel so blessed to witness this trust and joy every day. None of this would be possible without your kind love and support together, we are keeping so many tails wagging and bellies full. Thank you for all who checked on us. We are all still alive, but we aren't well. After 66 days of war & siege, there is no longer food available in the markets except canned tuna. Unfortunately, it is being sold at exorbitant prices beyond imagination, & despite the fact that we have become only eaten one meal a day, but the food runs out and we only have two meals left.
