We are traveling through space and time and we will never be in the same place twice. Our Solar System travels at ~515,000 mph. Even at this rapid speed, the Solar System would take about 230 million years to travel all the way around the Milky Way and that... show more

My friend John and I took this video of the Milky Way near Telluride, Colorado in August, 2021. At the time, we were traveling at a speed of 143 miles per second relative to the center of the galaxy. I've travelled over one billion miles since that trip. We are all just passing through.

And yet after thousands of years we see the same constellations everywhere and they NEVER CHANGE .....odd

Yes, and don't forget there's not empty space all around us, but we're ensconced in the heliosphere from our star protecting us from the interstellar medium.

This is a fantasy.

Ryan, of course we are on a Newtonian plane everything is flat our solar system is not moving nor is the Milky Way. All is safe.

Stay safe Brian.

This is fake CGI . Had we been moving like this in space we should have been seeing different constellations in the sky after every few years at the least. All the constellation we see today were been even seen thousands of years ago as well and that too in same position. You think Pole star would have remained in constant direction if this is true?

Mesmerizing. Also really puts Climate Change into better perspective.

I wish schools would teach this form of our Solar System rather than the flat disc circles (eek, not even ellipsis). For one, it's more accurate, and informs about how planetary alignment happens. Second it's beautiful and, even in an area as esoteric as basic astronomy, this visual is alluring.
