"It hasn't quite sunk in yet." James Robinson was at home when he received the news of his 2024 prize in economic sciences. He shared with us his initial reaction, appreciation for the recognition and his hopes of continuing to do his work. Robinson shares the prize with Daron Acemoglu and Simon Johnson "for studies of how institutions are formed and affect prosperity." We will stream the lectures in economic sciences on 8 December. How are the Nobel Prize laureates selected? January is the last month of the year to submit candidates for the 2026 Nobel Prizes. Thousands of members of academies, university professors, scientists, previous laureates and members of parliamentary assemblies and others are able to nominate. The nominators are chosen in such a way that as many countries and universities as possible are represented over time. After receiving all nominations, the Nobel Committees of the four prize-awarding institutions are responsible for the selection of the candidates. Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others.
