Every company I've worked at, product graphics were always a bottleneck. They're important assets because they help sell the value of the product. But what happens when the product is constantly evolving? I built a tool (inspired by what George Bugg started) where I turned all of out atoms/components into HTML so that anyone internally can create their own product graphics. Because we have amazing guidelines (shoutout Shivani and team) I was able to give it specific constraints, rules, and guidelines. So much more potential for this tool, e.g, product animation or creating demos. I even got a Slack bot to generate graphics without me even touching the tool.

Nobody seems to know how insane GPT-5.4 is with computer use. I asked GPT-5.4 to draw the OpenAI logo in Microsoft Paint. No computer use API. Just a screenshot and basic tool calls (click, drag, press_key) all coordinate-based. The first drawing was awful. And GPT knew it. It looked at its own result and essentially went "yeah, no." What happened next is what broke my brain: It opened a browser. Went to Bing Images. Searched for the OpenAI logo. Found one. Then (and I cannot stress this enough) it used the Windows area screenshot shortcut (Win+Shift+S) to snip just the logo off the screen. Went back to Paint. Imported it. Centered it. All on its own. No instructions to do any of that. It just improvised a better strategy when the first one failed. My prompt was "Draw the OpenAI logo" with Paint already opened on the computer. Sure, it's "cheating." But honestly? That's exactly what I'd do too. And the fact that it came up with this plan from nothing but a screenshot and a coordinate system is wild.

The three ways AI, particularly long-horizon agents, are changing the role of PMs: "First, product development is changing because the models and the capabilities are growing so fast that if you try to be very strict and stringent about describing exactly what you're going to build, its not going to work. It's very important for the PMs to be understanding of what these models are capable of and to be hands-on. The only thing PMs do now is articulate what the customer needs are at the highest level. But the actual product is built bottoms up by engineers, researchers, and product managers and designers all working together on the code itself. Second, the product manager and designer role are merging increasingly. When given the choice between an extra designer and extra engineer, they're saying, give us an extra engineer. And the other very important thing that's fundamentally different is non-deterministic software. Today, you could do X, Y happens. But if you do slight variation of X something completely different happens. That means someone has to evaluate whether or not what the software is producing is reasonable or not across various use cases. So the PM's job is to be very clear at a high level of what the user needs are, and then have a very clear sense of whether this product is good to ship or not by evaluating it."

AI has started building its own successors. It's happening right now. Humans still kick most of it off, but the models are already training the next models, and each version builds a better version faster than the last. We know what happens when something gets an advantage and the substrate is there... it proliferates incredibly fast. Soon it just runs the whole process itself. People are still debating whether AI takes your job. That's not the question. You can't compete with this intelligence at all. Next to it the human is negative value, the slowest one in the room. And this is the slowest it will ever move again. It's about to run on its own, faster than we can conceive of, and nobody's prepared for that. Wonderful conversation as ever with Emad.

Peter Jackson talks about AI in Hollywood. Calls it “a tool” like stop-motion or CGI before and what ultimately matters is “imagination, originality” of whoever uses the tool: “I think AI — used in the right way — is a tool like any other tool. [The original] King Kong…was stop-motion and done by a person moving a rubber creature. Why shouldn't somebody on a computer using AI software be able to create their own imagery? They should. It's a tool. It's no different from many other tools that have existed over the years. But the other side of it is that it's always going to come down to the imagination and originality of the person feeding the instructions into the AI program. It's not that you're going to type in an instruction and it's going to generate your shot, and that's that. The question is: is it actually interesting? Is it funny? Is it imaginative? And are you going to stitch it together to make a narrative, a story? Some people will make really great films that way. Some people will do exactly the same process and their film will be crap, just like in the normal film industry. From Eric Vishria on how the top AI founders are building products completely opposite of the SaaS era: "One of the things that is really different in the AI world versus the SaaS world, is that in the SaaS world, over and over again, you had people who really understood the customer. And the problem. And then they understood a domain. They understood what the technology was more or less capable of. But it wasn't a real question of if you could build something or not. For example, take Salesforce, Workday, and ServiceNow. CRM existed before Salesforce. HR management existed before Workday. Same thing with ServiceNow. So in every case, Salesforce followed Siebel. Workday followed Peoplesoft. ServiceNow followed Peregrine and Remedy, and others. So they were just kind of, cloud SaaS versions of the prior generation product. They just understood the customers. They understood the problem. And they were just like, here's a better version. And that evolved a little bit over time in SaaS land. But that's what it is. And so product development in that way was done by people who really understood the customer and the problems. And then just took advantage of the next wave. And this is almost diametrically opposite of product development in the AI era. When I look at the teams that are having the most success today, they have intimate knowledge of the models. They are right on the frontier of understanding which models are better at what, and why, and when. And what they're going to be good at and what they're not going to be good at. And what they're spending their time on, is figuring out how do I apply this capability of this model to this domain or to this user. So they're actually working inside out or technology out, versus customer problem in. And of course, they understand the customer problem. And a lot of times they have firsthand knowledge of it. But they're really close to the metal and capability, and they're applying it. And I think this is a really different way to develop products than in SaaS. I started my career as a product manager a long time ago, and it's almost the complete opposite of everything you learned. "Listen to the customer, understand it, then bring it back to the engineering and product teams." If you did that right now, ask a bunch of customers what they want out of AI, and you brought it back, for the most part, it may not be possible today with today's technology. Whereas the teams that are winning right now really understand the technology and are applying it out. And so I think this reversal matters. I think it's a big difference in terms of how companies are getting built. And maybe even the types of entrepreneurs that will be successful. I'm not sure. You're seeing some real change there. If you take strong action and it is very different action from what your country has known before...you can only be confident that your action is right if it is founded on strong principles. Mine was founded on the belief that governments are there to serve the liberties of the people under a rule of law, a free enterprise economy, and strong defence. After we lost the election in 1974, and the Labour Government came in, we had departed from our fundamental principles. And I set up a great study with many people—not only politicians but businessmen, academics, journalists—and we redrafted our whole principles. From the principles, we decided the policies and we sorted out what needed to be done and how it was to be done when we got into power. That took four years. I had confidence we were in the right and our policies would achieve the right. Although, as you know, great change means great dislocation. We had to cut expenditure; we had to privatise; we had to get down taxation; we had to cut the bureaucracy. All of the people objected, and for two and a half years my name was marred. It's always difficult to do the right thing. But my father had taught me to persevere: It's easy to be a starter, but are you a sticker-to? It's easy enough to begin a job, it's harder to see it through. And I saw it through. After three years, all of a sudden, the good things in the economy began to show through. At the same time, we had the Falklands, and against all odds we won. Although, the world thought it was really rather astonishing that Britain sent a fleet 8,000 miles away into the bitter cold Antarctic against a foe that had air cover from land when we only had it from aircraft carriers. So the two reinforced one another. But I couldn't have done it unless I had been confident that we had the right principles and that if we persisted, it would show through to the benefit of our people. I was never defeated in an election by the people of my country. That is my proudest boast.

This is one of the last videos I have of my sister, it’s from 2006 when we went hiking in Zion. I wish I would’ve taken more video knowing that she was going be gone two years later. The would have’s and should have’s kill me at times. I try to focus on continuing to live life so she can experience it thru my eyes, as if she’s still here, seeing it via my eyes. She was a ball of energy and always so fun and lively. Grateful the memories we got to experience. Remember to make the most of the moments you have with the people you care about.
