We asked Gemini 4 Argon to make a realistic 3D scene in pure Python with zero external libraries. It wrote 5,000+ lines of code and built its own 3D ray-tracing engine, custom video tool, and audio mixer to render and document this sunlit library from scratch — producing, narrating,... show more

@antigravity The impressive part isn’t just the 5,000 lines of code. It’s that Gemini built the entire rendering pipeline from scratch. AI is moving beyond writing code to engineering complete systems.

@antigravity Not only did it take forever to arrive, but it's not even available for Plus and Pro users. We want this for Plus and Pro users too!

@antigravity 5,000 lines of pure Python, thats crazy

@antigravity the impressive part is building the whole pipeline from scratch!!!

@antigravity pure python with no numpy has to be hours per frame from interpreter overhead alone. did it actually write an mp4 encoder from scratch too, or how did it get video out without ffmpeg?

@antigravity pure python 3d scenes is one way to avoid the backlog

@antigravity the underrated part is the demo choice. nobody can verify a benchmark, but anyone can look at a sunlit library and judge it in 2 seconds play for anyone launching an AI feature: lead with one output a stranger can judge at a glance, put the eval table SECOND

@antigravity Asked for toast. It built a toaster factory. The toast is admittedly quite good.

@antigravity Writing a ray tracer from zero dependencies is pure engineering craftsmanship. Software is moving from importing libraries to forging its own tools.

@antigravity 🤯⚡️

@antigravity Building a custom ray-tracing engine, video tool, and audio mixer from scratch in pure Python with zero external libraries is mind-blowing. The level of complexity achieved here is next-level!

@antigravity impressive demo, but how many months of user quota were burned to render this? meanwhile, normal users lose 10% of their limit just asking for a text outline

@antigravity Tell a developer 'no libraries' and they update their résumé. Tell Gemini and it builds a ray tracer.

@antigravity Okay, now give it a completely different scene and see how much of that engine it can reuse. That's the follow-up I'd love to see.

@antigravity Building its own ray tracing engine with zero libraries is genuinely wild work

@antigravity building its own video tool with zero libraries probably means hand-writing the encoder too. how many attempts before the first frame came out clean?

@antigravity Amazing

@antigravity Building a custom ray tracer just to avoid pip install is both insane and deeply relatable.

@antigravity argon also wrote the voiceover and lyria soundtrack for that library video in the same run

@antigravity Yeah but you need the ultra tier to use Gemini 4 in the IDE so most of us will never know how good it is.

@antigravity So it basically speedran a mini Blender, in Python, for fun? Now I’m curious how it handled textures.

@antigravity Great demo.

does numpy not count as an external library?

@antigravity the fact that it rendered the window light without a single external library is genuinely making me question every skill i have

@antigravity Okay, now ask it to move one bookshelf without changing the rest of the room 😂 I'd love to see that follow-up.

@antigravity tbh the 5000 lines is the part thats easy to film. it only worked because someone already knew what to ask, most ppl still cant name the task

@antigravity Building its own ray tracer instead of importing one is a great demo. The harder test is round two: can it find the bug when a shadow renders wrong in 5,000 lines it wrote itself? Writing from scratch is solved; maintaining it isn't yet.

@antigravity Wow, cool!
