The driver may have been completely wrong, but that does not give a Road Safety Officer the excuse to recklessly endanger the lives of everyone else on the road, including himself. Law enforcement is not supposed to become a greater danger than the offence being punished. If the very people responsible for road safety are creating situations that could cause serious crashes or deaths, then that is not enforcement. It is gross irresponsibility and a failure of professionalism. There must be accountability. Officers should not be allowed to hide behind the authority of their uniforms when their conduct puts lives at risk. Every reckless enforcement action should be investigated, and where an officer is found to have acted improperly, there should be consequences. Road safety must mean safety for everyone.

We must restore order in our city. I was recently insulted and harassed by a group of women simply because I asked them to do the right thing move to the designated backstreets meant for hawkers. Despite their actions, I have chosen to forgive them. It's time we turn a new page and start respecting the law for the greater good of our city. Let me be clear: being poor is not a license to break the law. Poverty should never be used as an excuse to violate public order, disrupt the peace, or damage the aesthetic beauty of Nairobi. If we allow this line of thinking that someone should be excused simply because they are struggling then where do we draw the line? Will we justify theft, violence, or destruction just because the person is poor? In the same way, we cannot justify lawlessness in the streets just because hawkers are trying to earn a living. Nairobi is the capital of Kenya, a city of dignity and potential. We cannot achieve a clean, orderly, and beautiful city if our walkways are overcrowded, waste is dumped indiscriminately, and laws are ignored in the name of survival. Some are criticizing me for insisting on enforcement, saying I should "just let them be." But leadership requires making difficult decisions that protect both the present and future of our city. I will not shy away from doing what is right. Nairobi belongs to all of us, and we must protect its image, its order, and its people rich or poor by upholding the law equally.

This was Wike condemning state of Emergency and putting whoever you want to put in charge. Regardless of what any of us might think, this is about what is wrong. What is wrong is wrong, and we must be bold enough to condemn it. The president doesn't have the right to remove or suspend an elected governor. There is no provision for a sole administrator. This nonsense can not happen in a sane country. That is Nnamdi Kanu, called Nigeria a Zoo. The constitution is supreme, and everything we do in Nigeria must be guided by the provision of the constitution. We can continue to deceive ourselves or tell ourselves the truth.

This must be said without fear or favour. What ZANU PF is doing is abnormal. We are all sinners in need of cleansing and mercy but there are lines we must never allow each other to cross. We cannot mix the holy and the profane. We cannot abuse the altars of our God in the name of political convenience. We cannot politicize the church and turn the pulpit into a campaign platform. People bear burdens and those must be lifted when believers tread on holy ground. Our children will never forgive us if we fail to put an end to this degenerate madness. And I repeat, this fight does not require holy men—such do not exist—it only requires men and women, women especially, who have shame.

We should not degrade ourselves to secondary roles – not when we have a chance to be a great power together. We should not accept that Europe is just a salad of small and middle powers, seasoned with enemies of Europe. When united we are truly invincible. Europe can and must be a global force. Not one that reacts late, but one that defines the future. That would help everyone – from the Middle East to every other region in the world. That would help Europe itself because the challenges we face now are challenges to the European way of life where people matter, where nations matter. Europe can help build a better world. Europe must build a better world. A world without war. But for that, Europe needs strength. For that, we must act together – and act in time. And most of all – we must have the courage to act.

We Just Want the Truth There is nothing wrong with asking questions, discussing and analyzing the varied collection of information surrounding the official Charlie Kirk narrative. I believe that both Viva Frei and I want the truth, perhaps we just disagree on what happens between now and then. I think it's reasonable to be inquisitive and skeptical of any official narrative, and I don't think the act of openly discussing information without certainty of it's meaning is wrong. If we just sat on the sidelines and said "the experts are in charge" throughout recent history, we'd be much worse off. We must be willing to admit if more evidence proves we were wrong, but we must also not associate anyone who follows the case from one angle or the other to be lumped in with the most outlandish or fringe element of people talking about it. All we want is the truth and I think that's true of both sides, for the most part.

It would be logical to have a discussion on them. Parliament is supposed to be the place where we can ventilate the voice of the people, the concerns of the people. Once we do that, we all know the government has a majority. As the old saying goes, the Opposition must have its say because the government will have its way. They have the majority. But at least let parliament be a forum where these concerns can be heard, can be truly ventilated and voiced, where various people can represent the views of their constituents. Then the government can disagree. But right now, just refusing a discussion is what has led to today's disruption because the opposition wanted these issues up there, wanted an opportunity to talk about them on the floor of the house. If Parliament is not for raising these issues, then honestly, what is it for? I mean, it can't just be a sort of notice board for the government to announce its bills and get them passed with a rubber stamp. That's not what Parliament is all about. It should be a forum where all these views can be heard, discussed, debated as necessary and then passed. The Prime Minister has sought cooperation from the opposition. We'll cooperate if they cooperate. The idea should be that there should be mutual cooperation. Let them permit certain discussions. This has got to be give and take. That's the way Parliament is supposed to function."

#WATCH | Delhi | On CJP protest, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor says, "When a non-violent protest is taking place, what is the reason for a lathi-charge? Lathi charge is not an act of non-violence. It is an act of violence. I don't understand the logic of this. Similarly here in Parliament, everyone knows these are burning issues across the country. It would be logical to have a discussion on them. Parliament is supposed to be the place where we can ventilate the voice of the people, the concerns of the people. Once we do that, we all know the government has a majority. As the old saying goes, the Opposition must have its say because the government will have its way. They have the majority. But at least let parliament be a forum where these concerns can be heard, can be truly ventilated and voiced, where various people can represent the views of their constituents. Then the government can disagree. But right now, just refusing a discussion is what has led to today's disruption because the opposition wanted these issues up there, wanted an opportunity to talk about them on the floor of the house. If Parliament is not for raising these issues, then honestly, what is it for? I mean, it can't just be a sort of notice board for the government to announce its bills and get them passed with a rubber stamp. That's not what Parliament is all about. It should be a forum where all these views can be heard, discussed, debated as necessary and then passed. The Prime Minister has sought cooperation from the opposition. We'll cooperate if they cooperate. The idea should be that there should be mutual cooperation. Let them permit certain discussions. This has got to be give and take. That's the way Parliament is supposed to function."

You can't possibly say that the only reason to do it is because God will punish you in an afterlife. If God's back was turned, does that mean it would be okay to kill and rob or let people drown or starve? I can think of plenty of secular reasons to do it. Namely, I would not want to be left to starve or drown or die of lack of blood. I would not want to be the victim of murder or robbery. There's nothing special about me, and therefore what I demand of everyone else, I have to accept for myself. It is clear that we would all be better off in a world where everyone helped each other and refrained from hurting each other compared to a society where everyone was a rapacious psychopath. That's why we should be moral. God has nothing to do with it. Ross Douthat (Ross Douthat): What happens in Dr. Pinker's argument is that as an heir of Jewish and Christian civilization, he imports, as this kind of commonsensical position, metaphysical propositions about the existence of these human rights that no one has ever seen of or heard of. He cannot show me a human right under a microscope. He cannot prove to me in a mathematical theorem why segregation was wrong, why it was wrong to murder people in the gulag or the concentration camp for the sake of a better tomorrow. He asserts that it's necessary for, again, sort of decency and order and so on, and often it is, but there has to be a stronger reason when you find yourself in a position where what the society says is out of joint with what you think are the fundamental truths about the universe.
