The City’s Bad Buildings Committee has returned to Pretoria Industrial for an illegal electricity disconnection operation. We've arrested an individual who was allegedly posing as a City of Tshwane contractor and was connecting electricity illegally in the area. A fake City of a Tshwane logo was found on their vehicle. We have also impounded the vehicle. Illegal connections endanger lives, damage infrastructure, and undermine service delivery. The Ekurhuleni government continues to demolish illegal structures in Cloverden Benoni, the informal settlement was built temporarily without any promises of permanent settlement. Illegal foreigners mining illegally in Benoni mines hijacked the informal settlement meant for South Africans and pushed out South African natives, which resulted in the informal settlement becoming a crime hotspot with motorists being targeted while driving on the N12.

Today, we targeted Christoffel Street, where we uncovered a hidden informal settlement situated at 473, behind a local supermarket which was previously a church. We discovered 30 shacks at the rear of the property, along with additional rooms inside the main building. Tenants are reportedly paying R1 300 in rent. Today, we conducted a special operation targeting Cemetery View and Plastic View Informal Settlements. We arrested over 90 illegal immigrants who are now being processed by Home Affairs. Deportations are expected in next few days following court approval. This is the beginning of a process to clean-up these areas. We have 800 South Africans who reside in Plastic View and they will be relocated by the City. The properties are non-compliant and were built without approval, with illegal connections to both water and electricity. Officials found that cement had been poured over illegal cabling to prevent its removal, and the city's electrical power box had been removed from outside and placed inside the yard.
