There's more to this. There's a filter inside so that when the water tumbles through the drum it goes through the filter. So over the distance it gets cleaned

while this seems funny, and obvious, what you don't understand (I lived in 3 different African countries) putting the barrel on your head and going up and down valleys and mountains is far more efficient. You'd think some sort of cart would be better, but we're not talking walking on a road. Try grabbing a bucket and getting water "from a creek".
