Yesterday was pure joy and heartfelt fulfillment as I personally presented appointment letters to 5,000 newly employed teachers in Edo State. Watching their smiles and hearing their words of gratitude reminded me of why I chose to serve; to restore hope, dignity, and pride to our people. These are the moments that give true meaning to leadership. This is why you elected me; to bring practical governance that touches lives and delivers real change to every household across Edo State. A few weeks ago, Distinguished Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South in the Senate, raised concerns about the escalating insecurity in Ovia and other parts of Edo State. He urged the government to take immediate action, emphasizing the suffering of the people. However, the Inspector General of Police and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu failed to respond or show concern. Today, the situation has taken a dire turn. In Uromi, some Edo residents, exhausted from the killings and lack of assistance, have taken matters into their own hands. They have resorted to vigilantism, as they couldn't wait any longer for help. Social media is now filled with people condemning their actions. But let's ask: would this have happened if the government had heeded Senator Neda's warning? No. This crisis is a result of the government's inaction. The Nigerian Constitution empowers the president and police to ensure our safety, but they have failed us. The events in Edo State expose their inability to fulfill their duties. People are dying, and families are suffering because our leaders have turned a blind eye. I commend Senator Neda Imasuen for speaking out when it mattered. I will not watch Edo be destroyed by cultists, kidnappers, and criminals. Today, I supervised the demolition of a house where children were kidnapped, tortured, and used for rituals. That wickedness ends now. Edo must be safe. We have also sealed cultists’ hideouts and are enforcing the new anti-cultism law. When Naija Confra carries out a thorough investigation that help save lives, we do not expect “thank you” in return, because we are doing the work of God “free of charge”, and are aware that some people only want to see us fail. In Auchi, while most people blamed Aye (NBM) for the attack, Naija Confra gave a detailed report stating the full context of the case and also mentioned Jurist (PLIJ) as a suspect in our investigation. Now, the same Edo State Taskforce has reportedly located Jurist suspects, whom they claim started the incident. While we commend their work, it is also important that they don’t choose only reports that favour them, so as not to mislead the people of Edo State. AUCHI, EDO: Several houses belonging to cultists were demolished yesterday. While reporting the case of Wealth, the Eiye member in police custody, we had already mentioned that the Edo State government began demolishing houses following the cult clash between Aye (NBM) and Eiye (ACN) in Auchi. This shows that Auchi and Edo State will not tolerate cult violence or k!ll!ngs. Edo people have suffered enough from cult clashes, and we welcome any tough and proactive measure taken to fight such crimes. Cultism should never be given room in Edo State. We commend the government and the security agencies for their swift action. Stay safe. Reject Cultism.
