Over this past week, Russia used around 2,200 attack drones against Ukraine, more than 1,730 guided aerial bombs, and 106 missiles of various types, nearly half of them ballistic. Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Kharkiv, and Dnipro, as well as our border and frontline communities, are under fire almost every day. There was a massive strike on Kyiv that claimed the lives of 31 people and injured another 102, including four children. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Every day, we must protect lives from these attacks. We already have the capabilities to effectively shoot down more than 90% of drones, but, unfortunately, not all ballistic missiles are intercepted. And it is ballistic missiles that Moscow is now leaning on to continue its war. And every day, we are working to strengthen air defense for Ukraine: through PURL and through our bilateral contacts with countries that have not joined PURL but do have the missiles we so urgently need. We are also strengthening our air defense through joint work with Europeans on anti-ballistic capabilities. We need answers from our partners to our requests for air defense. Every day, we are working to ensure greater protection against Russian terror. Yesterday, we received a new IRIS-T launcher. We thank Germany for its constant contribution to protecting people; thousands upon thousands of lives have been saved thanks to such strong support. But we also need missiles for air defense systems so that we have sufficient capabilities to repel Russian attacks. This week, there were significant arrangements with Sweden – a new support package, including for strengthening our aviation with Gripen fighter jets. As for the PURL initiative, there are new contributions this year, and support for this initiative must continue. We are counting on both the United States and European partners. It is anti-ballistic defense that is one of the key priorities for Ukraine. Strong air defense can provide greater protection for our people and deprive Russia of its last remaining advantage. I thank all partners who are helping, who are ready to respond effectively to Moscow’s attempts to expand and escalate its war. Today, the Air Force is much more than just one branch of the military. It is a component of our defense that, in many ways, truly shapes the course of this war. Ukrainians did not surrender – and will not surrender – their skies to Russia. That is one of our nation's greatest achievements throughout this full-scale war. We did not allow our Air Force to be destroyed, and have built it up to the point where Russia regularly loses its aircraft. And now, when the only thing – the last thing – Putin has left to bet on is his massive attacks against Ukraine, the Air Force, our combat aviation, is destroying Russian cruise missiles and trying to destroy ballistic missiles as well. And when our Patriot batteries aren't empty, it succeeds. It is important that, thanks to our cooperation with Europe, our IRIS-T, Hawk, and NASAMS systems are operating. Every day, we fight to secure missile supplies for them. And I am grateful that our partners around the world are helping us with that. Of course, ballistic missiles remain a challenge. But we have provided Ukraine with protection against a significant share of cruise missiles, and we are shooting down a great many. Our interception rate against attack drones is also above 90%, and that is a truly significant achievement for Ukraine – for all of us, for every one of you. I thank all of you – all those gathered here today, every man and woman defending Ukraine's skies – who, despite fighting what is, in reality, an unequal battle and lacking sufficient means to bring down enemy targets, accomplish the incredible, go beyond the maximum. You have shown the world your skill and proven that Ukrainians are capable of overcoming anything. All we need are the weapons and the means to do it. We are proud of you. What the Russians want is the complete destruction of life. In more than eleven years of Russia’s war against Ukraine, they have brought only one new thing to our land, the most widespread Russian “legacy”, ruins and death. We must continue resisting this. I thank everyone around the world who is helping. The Russians are preparing to continue the war and are ignoring all peace proposals. They must be held accountable. We are working to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence. We urgently need positive signals from the United States regarding air defence systems — we are still waiting for a response to our request to purchase systems that can help. I thank the European countries for supplies. We must also achieve results in joint production of air defence systems and missiles, this is absolutely essential for our whole Europe. Only time separates us from that result, and what matters most is shortening that time.

We are already preparing for the “Ramstein” meeting – it is scheduled for the next week. Dozens of partner countries will participate, including those who can help boost our capabilities not only to defend against missiles but also against guided bombs and Russian aviation. We will discuss this with them and continue to persuade them. Lives need protection here and now in Ukraine, and air defense systems must be operational for this purpose. I am grateful to all partners who understand this and are helping us strengthen our air shield.
