Qullamaggie on the Importance of Leading Stocks “And like people post setups all the time on my stream. People post setups all the time, and this is the hard part — identifying a really good setup versus something that’s random and mediocre. Because that’s gonna also reflect on your results. If you trade the random setups, your results are gonna be random too. You want to find the outlier stocks. You want to see if it has relative strength. The best time to trade this breakout method is after a pullback in the markets. You want to see the stocks that held up the most — the ones that had big moves previously and held up the most. And if you master this setup, if you trade this setup coming out of a small correction, like say a 5-10 or 15% correction in the overall indices, that’s almost like free money for this type of setup. Because if you can identify the stocks that held up the most during the correction — that maybe went down initially but then stopped going down as the correction went on, and actually started building higher lows — that’s telling you something. If you have a stock that’s gone up a lot, and then it stops going down when the market goes down, you know the stock is trying to tell you something. And that’s what leading stocks do. Like every bull market, this is obviously the case. I’m gonna talk more about it later. You obviously need an up-trending or sideways market to trade this method. You have leading stocks — the stocks that go up the most and are the most liquid. And those are really the stocks you want to trade. They’re mostly mid and large caps, but even a small cap can be a leading stock. Those are really the stocks that don’t go down when the market goes down. It’s like you try to push a tennis ball underwater — it just pops back up. And those are the type of stocks you want to find when trading this method.”

If you just focus on one type of stocks, just focus on the stocks that have triple digit earnings and or revenue. Look at the growth. High double-digit, mid-high double-digit revenue growth, and over 1,000% in EPS growth. Here it was 900%. Look at the move it made. Look at the moves. You just look for setups on these types of stocks, you have a big edge. Or you can just focus on stocks with top momentum. Or you can do a combination. Depends on how you're wired. There’s no reason to be in margin in one or a few stocks. Just look at the moves from the March lows. There’s hundreds of stocks that have doubled tripled quadrupled. There was no reason to be in one single stock. It’s just ridiculous; it’s the dumbest thing ever. Why would you be in a few stocks? I just don’t get the point.”

If everyone else is panicking and selling stocks, we’re gonna panic too. Now if you can find a way around that, you will make a lot of money. If you can do things a little differently in the stock market… if you can have a little independent thought… and actually base your decisions on something else than what your neighbors are doing, or your friends, or some guy on TV… you’re gonna have wildly different results than them.”

And you want stocks, you know, if you’re gonna hold the stock for many months and even quarters. You know there needs to be a reason for the stock to go up rather than just random momentum. Like, shorter term swing trading, you can just use momentum. You don’t need any fundamentals. But you know, to catch a mover like this, you know something goes up several hundred percent in a short amount of time. You know you need fuel. The stock needs, uh, to have a reason to go up. And the fuel many times is earnings, big earnings and revenue growth, and obviously big volume. You know some of my biggest winners: Fastly, Livongo, those stocks. These stocks went up 200, 300% after my entry. And these had big, you know, they had a lot of fuel or rocket fuel. And it’s called earnings and revenue growth. Now Fastly doesn’t have any earnings, but it had, you know, pretty good revenue growth. Livongo has enormous revenue growth and even earnings growth. Like a lot of these stocks that have made big moves, like Fiverr again. Big revenue growth and now it’s getting earnings too. GSX too. This thing has very big earnings and revenue growth, even though a lot of, you know, people call it a fraud. But like, look at the numbers right. This is the reason the stock is up, or was up almost 1,000% uh, in less than a year. Is because of this, look at the revenue growth. These are the stocks that make big moves. So you know, I try to focus on stocks that have big earnings and revenue growth. Primarily revenue growth, they don’t need to have earnings, but earnings if they have earnings, that’s a good thing. W too, well W was a bit trickier, because it had a slow quarter here. But now like, look at the numbers: 300% Rev, EPS growth 84% revenue growth. These are the stocks that make big moves. Overstock, hundred and ten percent revenue growth last quarter, and the market sniffed it out. This is why the stock went up two thousand percent before the earnings report. And you, you know, that’s something. If you study the big movers over the past, you know, 10, 20 years, you’ll see that most of the big movers, not all of them, but most of them had big revenue and big earnings growth.”
