❗️Romania received the first 9 of 65 AAV-7 amphibious assault vehicles (former USMC vehicles for $290 million, deliveries in 2026–27). This forms one of NATO’s leading amphibious assault capabilities in Europe, primarily for operations in the large Danube Delta, where other armored vehicles are unsuitable. Parliament approved the purchase of 65 vehicles in 2024 after FMS approval for 21 units in 2023 and an additional request for 44 more. The Romanian Navy has no landing ships to employ the entire batch from the sea. Therefore, the vehicles are oriented toward operations in the Danube Delta covering 3,446 km².
