While some nations are able to mobilise trillions to shield their citizens and economies from pandemics and other emergencies, others are left constrained by debt and denied fair access to global capital. We should use this Summit to push for the full implementation of commitments made across various forums – from the Financing for Development process to the #G20 and Climate Change COP. We must strengthen coordination between the UN, the African Union, the G20, international financial institutions and other global financial actors, embedding inclusivity at the heart of global economic governance. To close the SDG financing gap, we need to undertake the following bold measures: Firstly, we need debt relief and restructuring that is faster, fairer and more comprehensive. Secondly, we need to mobilise affordable, accessible financing from a wide range of sources. Thirdly, we need to rechannel unused Special Drawing Rights to countries in need. Fourthly, we must scale up concessional finance through development banks. Lastly, we must reform global tax rules to curb illicit financial flows Beyond financial instruments, we need confidence that commitments will be honoured and that global rules will be shaped by all members, not just a few. They said it couldn’t be done… We had people doubt us… How can you build a desalination plant in the middle of a genocide - it’s too hard. It’s impossible to source all the parts… Weeeellllllll….. Thanks to you, thanks to the incredible efforts of our team, thanks to the will to be different and make a real difference…WE DID IT!!! The Sameer Project’s water desalination plant in the North is complete. During our pause in distributions and operations we went through testing of the plant and the quality of water produced. And we are ready!! Ready to produce new and more volume of water in the North. We will distribute this water ourselves AND give it out for free to organization who have capacity to deliver it to areas in need. Now we need continues funding to keep it operation: that includes fuel for the generator, maintenance, staffing of the plant - with your help this plant will basically pay for itself after a few months of operating and saved costs. I built a tool to imagine how AI can help us create better, more transparent research. Instead of only seeing the tiny number of analyses the author chooses to ossify in a static pdf, imagine being able to talk to the papers you read and ask for different analyses. That's what I built. This early prototype uses our vote-by-mail extension. You get to see the initial analyses we thought made sense, but you can ask the LLM to show you way more! e.g., "what would the results look like if we excluded Utah" or "what would the results look like if we excluded Washington and used linear trends" etc. With research agents like Claude code, researchers are going to be able to automatically search across millions of potential analyses. Our current paradigm is not equipped to transmit this complexity effectively or make sure we don't end up with all p-hacked results. My lab and I are thinking about how we can transform the way we do and disseminate research to adjust for this new world. This visualizer is the first of what will hopefully be a wide range of ideas. Republican Senator Ron Johnson just suggested that since more people die from 'cold weather' than 'warm weather', climate change puts us in a better position and that it is "very favorable to my state [Wisconsin]". Johnson asked: "In terms of excess death we are actually in a better position to prevent death by having the climate increase in temperature a little bit, right?" Shortsighted politicians who don't truly understand the issues are a massive liability, to not only the United States, but to our planet. Ron Johnson has taken over $900,000 from the oil and gas industry in his career. He completely fails to understand the far-reaching impact of climate change. I'm not at all suggesting we stop drilling for oil. The solution is to keep drilling but keep pushing technologies that slow climate change, as quickly as possible. I'm just baffled at the ignorance. Thoughts?
