During a night takeoff from a confined landing zone on April 24, 2025, an air medical BK 117 helicopter struck a tree shortly after liftoff in Hartford, Illinois. The pilot was using night vision goggles and attempted to use nearby power lines as a visual reference during the initial climb. The helicopter drifted rearward, the tail rotor impacted a tree, and the aircraft lost control before hitting the ground. A post-impact fire followed. Three crew members sustained serious injuries. A school student from Wellawaya is currently receiving treatment in hospital after being assaulted by police officers. The incident took place in the Kuduoya area, where the student was stopped by officers while riding a motorcycle. During the stop, the officers asked to check his license, but the student explained that he had left it at home and offered to return and show it later. In response, two officers reportedly handcuffed the student and attempted to assault him. Local residents who witnessed the situation intervened and strongly protested, causing the officers to release the student. Despite this, the student suffered injuries and was taken to Thanamalwila Regional Hospital for medical care. The student, who is in the thirteenth grade at a local school, remains hospitalized following the incident.

The incident occurred hours after seven persons were reportedly killed in Ratatis community, Dorowa Babuje, by suspected armed Fulani bandits. Sources confirmed that a passenger Opel Vectra conveying civilians was stopped at a road blockade mounted by suspected Berom youths. Four passengers were reportedly killed on the spot, while a fifth later died from injuries. All the victims were identified as Hausa residents of Gangare in Jos North. They were said to be traders travelling to Pankshin for their businesses.
