Kevin Williamson explains the truth behind the leaked script of "Scream 2" (1997): "There are so many different versions of this story, and it's so funny, because I get asked this question a lot. Here's what happened: I knew the script was going to get leaked, because everyone was talking about it, there was press, press, press: What's going to happen in 'Scream 2'? Luckily we had caught the zeitgeist and everyone wanted to know about 'Scream 2'. So I knew it was going it leak eventually — there was no way we could hold onto it. We were sending the script out without the last 75 pages to do our best, but we knew it would come out. So my team wrote a dummy script, my assistant wrote it, and we had a fake script with Dewey as the killer, and we leaked the fake one. So by the time the real one got out there, there was no fuss, no one cared." I'm like, I like Buffy. She's funny. She had all these quirky lines. She had physical comedy. It was just something really different. And they said, "Well, you know, we want a blonde for that role. I don't know, but you can come in and audition for Keenan." I worked on the role and it was tough because it was my death scene. So, it's just a big monologue and then the monologue goes on to be just your head talking. And then I got a call that they said, "Okay, he's changed his mind and he's going to do blonde for another role and he'll do brunette for your role."" "It's just Rorschach - no interrogation- you know, these are things that were, like, that was the movie. "Super clean Hollywood movie...It was updated to the War on Terror. All that stuff was real. At that time it wasn't exactly the War on Terror, it was just updated to modern time. That was the one note that I had been given. Saying like 'we love the script, we wish it was War on Terror rather than just a modern conflict'. "When I turned them back in a 1985, R-rated, long script...The studio did the opposite that you would think Hollywood would do."
