We spent 10 years helping companies screen developers with take-home tests. But with AI, anyone can ace a take-home. So we rebuilt the stack. Meet the new hiring process.

Awesome stuff. The hiring methods need to change for sure. For candidates, it is important to note that this is going to be a lot harder. Same fundamentals just harder to prove competence. Now you need to think and handle the slop generated by AI without getting frustrated and having a clear thought process along with judgement and understanding of WHY behind things even more. All in all the barrier to enter tech is only increasing and your problem solving skills will matter even more now.

I'm nervous about interviews again, like the pre-GPT days. Built for fairer hiring. Got parts wrong, but hit 100K+ interactions, 2.5K DAU. I'd love to join HackerRank's engineering team. Worth a 5-min call?

It is refreshing to finally see real world get incorporated into the hiring process. Forward thinking companies pretty much screen similarly right now so it only makes sense that it slowly becomes the norm. Like leetcode style interviews did. Doesn’t take away the fact that you still need to know your DSA and system design.

Just tell MNCs to follow it then real developers will be there from the start

its just soo sad and abnormal to give interview to AI, it does not understand the sentiment behind the answer. Humans dont check if someone is given best definition for question but if they understand the concept and can explain. This is very very bad for judging Humans.

A useful test could allow AI, then ask the candidate to debug a subtle failure and explain the trade-offs. That would show whether they can evaluate what the tool produced. How does the new process assess that judgment?

Even anthropic is asking leetcode you guys keep on adding solutions thats what your job is but companies should adopt

Finally someone launched the correct way to take interview in the AI era. Most companies should recruit in this was only as that is how the developers are going to work in mist companies

That claim is fair. I am building for the same problem of how we assess individuals rather than their masked use of AI as their own thinking. If a take-home task can be completed by a model, the finished code stops telling you how a person thought under constraints. Have a strong doubt whether they asked good questions, checked assumptions, revised, or simply accepted the first neat answer is what makes this process challenging and fragile. A process brief, or a short note on how I worked, keeps the judgment human. It gives hiring teams a readable path through the thinking, not just a polished artifact.

Ah... we forget we are hiring a human. If chakra is creating a flow to test judgment and reasoning, what is stopping chakra from solving its own test? Why not simply put another agentic layer and add a layer of judgment and reasoning that Chakra follows?

i don't know, i am not totally onboard with this. More pressure on young candidates

Woah It’s more of a reality check that how do people work with AI changed in just few years I almost wrote nothing manually for some time now, I spent time on reading the code, collect the evidence of my thinking process of the flow via an agent, try to understand those evidences and then decides what could be done better to the problem, and direct the agents toward that thinking of mine. Candidates must not assume that interviews will be easy, believe me it’s very hard now. And actually testing what you’ll be doing during actual work. It requires DSA skill with the correct thinking ability to guide the agent correctly. I attended one exact same process at an offline interview of a startup, the process was: I was given an actual task to solve which is a requirement for their production as well. I had 0 ideas around AMIs and EC2 life cycles at that time, and task was related to solving a DB state mismatch issues of EC2s, still I was able to complete the task with correct architecture approach by gathering the knowledge from agents. They went through my session after an interview and gave me an offer as well. I feel the interview of these style brings the some earning as well, you can learn things on the go and solve a problem using that via AI quickly. So, imo HackerRank nailed it with this idea and product. Let’s see how market and job evolves around it.

This process is good for conventional engineers who have been trained that way and then transformed to work with with agents. How about people who jumped straight to agents from day 1 ?
