A Belfast man has described his “traumatic and terrifying” experience of being detained by Israeli forces following his deportation back to Ireland. Fra Hughes from Ardoyne was joined by dozens of activists from Ireland and hundreds from across the globe who were detained while on board vessels that were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was attempting to bring medicine and food to Gaza. Hundreds of people gathered to welcome home the Irish detainees at Dublin Airport on Friday. They were among hundreds of global flotilla participants detained when stopped by Israeli forces in international waters.
