“We were tortured. 180 people were systematically bashed and beaten. People had broken ribs, were sexually assaulted, tased in the face, and injected with unknown sedatives.” Global Sumud Flotilla activist Juliet Lamont described severe abuse by Israeli occupation forces after activists attempting to break the siege on Gaza were attacked in international waters and abducted aboard prison ships. Lamont said detainees were subjected to a “planned campaign of violence” aimed at terrifying activists and preventing future solidarity missions to Gaza. She recounted being cable tied, water tortured, and sexually assaulted while held by Israeli forces before being transferred to Ashdod. “They’ve broken our bones but they haven’t broken our soul,” Lamont said. “Free Palestine.”

Israeli forces have intercepted a flotilla of dozens of boats that organisers say were carrying aid for people in Gaza. The vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla sent live video feeds as they were boarded off the coast of Cyprus. They originally set off from Turkey and the Turkish Foreign Minister said the action by the Israeli military constituted 'a new act of piracy'. It is being reported that that the detained activists will be taken to a large naval ship to the Israeli port of Ashdod.

GSF organizers say military sources leaked a plan showing Israel’s Shayetet 13 special forces — the same unit involved in the 2010 Mavi Marmara raid that killed 10 activists — were instructed to divide the flotilla by nationality and escalate aggressive tactics specifically against Turkish boats. Israeli media has reportedly dubbed the operation “Mavi Marmara 2.0.” Drop Site has not independently reviewed or verified the reported plan.
