Yesterday, I appointed Ivy Lee as the inaugural Director of the Office of Victim and Witness Rights. The formation of this new department signals a major step forward for victims, advocates, and survivors. It strengthens our pursuit of justice and transparency for victims who often feel ignored in the criminal justice process, serving as both a safety net and an accountability partner for the City. Thank you to Supervisor Catherine Stefani for spearheading the creation of this office and all those committed to making it a success. As we work to ensure that victims and witnesses of crime receive the comprehensive support they deserve, I am confident Ivy’s extensive experience in civil rights law and her commitment to justice will carry this department and our policies forward. Let’s continue our commitment to safety, justice, and healing for all San Franciscans together.

We saw the way these predators and pedophiles talked about women in their conversations with Jeffrey Epstein. It is important now more than ever that we do not let up in the fight for justice for these victims. I will continue to do everything in my power to hold these enablers accountable. I was honored to join Ro Khanna at a roundtable for survivors of Epstein to discuss how we can hold these perpetrators accountable and bring justice once and for all. We need to pass the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Now.

I want to say a huge thank you to the Creator of the world who watched over me, and thank you to the soldiers of the IDF and the security forces of Israel — those who are with us and those who are no longer with us. In your merit, you have commanded me: life after 7.10.2023 will be different. Thank you to the security forces and to all our leadership who worked hard to allow us to once again see the light and the land. Today as we marched to Parliament to lay flowers at the site where Kenyan Youth were shot dead, police violently dispersed us a few metres from the precincts of Parliament. I pulled Rex Masai's mother, who was marching next to me into my vehicle as other mothers and victims found refuge in the few cars on site. We drove away as police men pursued us. We were guilty of one thing: peaceful demonstration and picketing as allowed by our Constitution in remembrance of these young heroes. As a people, we shall not relent until we deliver justice and accountability for the victims. #Ukombozi is nigh!
