Today, I held a meeting with our foreign affairs team regarding our special foreign policy opportunities. These opportunities are available to our state thanks to many Ukrainians and millions of citizens from other countries who believe in Ukraine and support us. These opportunities allow us to keep Ukraine in the global spotlight, increase support for our state and our people, and effectively advocate for Ukrainian needs. The primary need is to end the war as quickly and justly as possible. Ukrainians have endured and achieved so much in this war because we have united not only within our state but also kept the world united for the right cause – for Ukraine and for everything that makes our world humane and capable of defeating evil. Our unity must continue to be preserved – everyone here in Ukraine, everyone in Europe, and the world who values Ukraine and life. This August, we are preparing news about greater consolidation of our people and everyone worldwide who helps us.

I have no doubt that Ukraine will win. Fellow Ukrainians, we should all have self-confidence. I am proud of everyone who fights for Ukraine, destroys the occupiers, and retakes our positions. I am proud of those who are currently serving in the trenches and combat posts, those who are training our warriors, and those who are producing arms, ammunition, and equipment for Ukraine. I am proud of those educating our minors, treating people and rescuing them after strikes, providing normal life to our cities, and giving us power. We can already see that the inaugural Peace Summit will be truly global. Leaders from all continents will attend. Many nations that value normal and peaceful coexistence will be present. I am grateful to all the states, leaders, and peace ambassadors who are assisting us in preparing for the summit. We will use the remaining weeks before the event to work with dozens of other leaders and countries that we hope to see at the summit. Despite the brutality of Russian pressure and the heinousness of Russian terror, the world must demonstrate that the combined strength of everyone who values life is sufficient to protect it. Such an outcome is critical for every nation because if this rule works in Ukraine, it will work everywhere.

We are already preparing for the “Ramstein” meeting – it is scheduled for the next week. Dozens of partner countries will participate, including those who can help boost our capabilities not only to defend against missiles but also against guided bombs and Russian aviation. We will discuss this with them and continue to persuade them. Lives need protection here and now in Ukraine, and air defense systems must be operational for this purpose. I am grateful to all partners who understand this and are helping us strengthen our air shield.

This week saw the #EUCO decision to open Ukraine’s EU accession talks. We worked actively for it all year. In the coming days, Ukraine and the European Commission will formally begin the screening process to assess the correspondence of Ukrainian legislation with EU legislation. We are also preparing for the work on Ukraine’s negotiation framework, which we expect to be adopted in the spring. The negotiation process will not be easy, but the important thing is that we already have historical certainty: Ukraine will always be part of our common European home. I am grateful to everyone who joined forces with us and helps bring the required European decisions closer: all politicians, civil society leaders, and people in different countries who have equal faith in Ukraine and in Europe.

Today, we have a new support package for Ukraine, and the most important element of it is the Swedish Gripen fighter jets, which will strengthen our air force. Overall, this year, next year, and our future cooperation are all about building Ukraine’s fleet of Swedish Gripens. This will help us guarantee the security of Ukraine and Ukrainians. Today, the Ulf Kristersson and I also discussed the details of our cooperation across all other areas. I briefed him on the situation in Ukraine – on the battlefield and in our defense against Russian strikes. We need our own European antiballistic capabilities in sufficient quantity and with sufficient strength. We will work on this, including within the NB8 format – one of our most effective formats, bringing together Ukraine, the Nordic countries, and the Baltic states. I am also grateful to Sweden for all the sanctions steps – everything that limits Russia’s capacity for aggression.
