Today I was in Dnipro and held a meeting with entrepreneurs of the Dnipro region — currently the number one region in terms of contribution to Ukraine’s GDP and in many other key economic areas. I thank everyone who is preserving and creating jobs in the region, everyone who is working for Ukraine and for the benefit of Ukraine. We will continue all government programs that have proven effective and that support our production and our economy. There is still more we can do to support our industry — I’ve instructed government officials to fulfill what the entrepreneurs have asked for today. These opportunities are available to our state thanks to many Ukrainians and millions of citizens from other countries who believe in Ukraine and support us. These opportunities allow us to keep Ukraine in the global spotlight, increase support for our state and our people, and effectively advocate for Ukrainian needs. The primary need is to end the war as quickly and justly as possible. Ukrainians have endured and achieved so much in this war because we have united not only within our state but also kept the world united for the right cause – for Ukraine and for everything that makes our world humane and capable of defeating evil. I am proud of those who are currently serving in the trenches and combat posts, those who are training our warriors, and those who are producing arms, ammunition, and equipment for Ukraine. I am proud of those educating our minors, treating people and rescuing them after strikes, providing normal life to our cities, and giving us power. We are already preparing for the “Ramstein” meeting – it is scheduled for the next week. Dozens of partner countries will participate, including those who can help boost our capabilities not only to defend against missiles but also against guided bombs and Russian aviation. We will discuss this with them and continue to persuade them. Lives need protection here and now in Ukraine, and air defense systems must be operational for this purpose. I am grateful to all partners who understand this and are helping us strengthen our air shield.

I am grateful to all the states, leaders, and peace ambassadors who are assisting us in preparing for the summit. We will use the remaining weeks before the event to work with dozens of other leaders and countries that we hope to see at the summit. Despite the brutality of Russian pressure and the heinousness of Russian terror, the world must demonstrate that the combined strength of everyone who values life is sufficient to protect it. This week saw the #EUCO decision to open Ukraine’s EU accession talks. We worked actively for it all year. In the coming days, Ukraine and the European Commission will formally begin the screening process to assess the correspondence of Ukrainian legislation with EU legislation. We are also preparing for the work on Ukraine’s negotiation framework, which we expect to be adopted in the spring. The negotiation process will not be easy, but the important thing is that we already have historical certainty: Ukraine will always be part of our common European home. I am grateful to everyone who joined forces with us and helps bring the required European decisions closer: all politicians, civil society leaders, and people in different countries who have equal faith in Ukraine and in Europe.

Today, we have a new support package for Ukraine, and the most important element of it is the Swedish Gripen fighter jets, which will strengthen our air force. Overall, this year, next year, and our future cooperation are all about building Ukraine’s fleet of Swedish Gripens. This will help us guarantee the security of Ukraine and Ukrainians.
