JUST IN: Conditions continue to worsen as rescue crews try reaching the location where Iran president Ebrahim Raisi's helicopter crashed. An Iranian commander said the aircraft's location was detected but Iran’s Red Crescent says it has not been located. Chances of survival continue to worsen as blizzard conditions slam the location where the helicopter allegedly went down. "The area has very cold, rainy, and foggy weather conditions. The rain is gradually turning into snow," an army commander said. The video below shows the current weather conditions as rescue teams scan the mountainsides.

A cold start to 2026 is looking more likely on the weather models and it could bring some proper cold with temps well below normal. At present risk of snow in Ireland is low but that can quickly change if the cold air does push down. Animation shows upper air temp forecast.
