I’m old enough to remember that after John McCain died reportedly from brain cancer in 2018, John Kasich went on CNN and said this: “It’s like 24 hours since John McCain was put to death.” Then Meghan McCain said this on The View: “My father — you can’t kill him again but whatever.” I’m also old enough to remember that when John was walking around in 2017 with a medical boot for a “tendon tear”, it popped up in a photo on the wrong foot. I’m sure this is all nothing…but whatever.

John McCain and I didn’t always agree, but he understood that some values transcended parties. He knew that if we got in the habit of bending the truth to suit political expediency or party orthodoxy, our democracy will not work. John McCain had character. That’s what I think about so much these days because it’s so different from what we see out of the Republican nominee.

For Memorial Day I would like to remind everyone that Donald Trump disrespected John McCain's service stating, "He's not a war hero", "He is only a hero because he was captured" and "He likes people who weren't captured" John McCain was offered early release when he was taken as a prisoner of war because his father was an important American military official, but John McCain REFUSED to leave captivity without the rest of the prisoners, voluntarily staying until everyone else could be released with him. If a Russian politician had appeared on January 6th in Washington telling the crowd to overthrow the government and Russia was with them, that would have sparked treason trials if not war!
