Being an identical twin by the scientific term has nothing to do with how they look. It has to do with if the cell splits or replicates. You can look exactly alike and still be fraternal. Their dna is just slightly different than if they were identical.

Midwife didn't go to medical school and obviously has a surface level understanding of physiology. Having seperate sacs & placentas do NOT guarantee faternal twins. Can be identical OR faternal. But sharing a placenta and/or sac DOES guarantee indentical twins.

Mary Kate and Ashley are fraternal twins as well

I feel some of you need a lesson in the scientific difference between what a fraternal twin and an identical twin is so here is a helpful video. If she is that conncerned she could get a DNA test but at the end of the day, how they look has nothing to do with this.

That midwife is wrong. Only 1% of identical twins share the same gestational sac.

Fraternal➔ 2 Eggs + 2 Sperm ├ Separate Placentas & Sacs Identical ➔ 1 Egg + 1 Sperm Splits ├ Separate Placentas & Sacs ├ Shared Placenta, Separate Sacs ├ Shared Placenta & Shared Sac ├ Conjoined Only DNA test can tell which is which when separate placenta and sac.

I used to work with 2 sets of twins, one identical and one fraternal. I had a harder time telling the fraternal twins apart than the identical twins.

I believed the midwife gor 31 years - but a DNA test proved her wrong!

Maybe dressing them differently would help🫠

I went to HS with fraternal twins that looked exactly alike. I was always mixing them up.

Lots of siblings (not even twins) look alike.

Some fraternal twins can look basically identical ig. I had a classmate in high school who had a twin brother. I thought they were identical bc they looked the exact same, but when I asked he insisted that they were fraternal. Apparently the Olsen twins are also fraternal twins.

Olsen twins are also fraternal. They got matching nose jobs to continue looking similar (which I respect).

that happens when 2 sperms fertilize 2 eggs it could just happen that the eggs and sper that got fertilized had the same or almost the same genes also stuff like having pure dominant genes for stuff could also contribute to it

i have twin cousins like this. the doctor insisted they weren't identical because they had different placentas, but they're 2 now and they're obviously identical. they have exactly the same face. all the weird unique features are the same, there's no way they're just siblings.

Identicals can have separate sacks and placentas. It depends on how the fertilized, split eggs attached to the womb. If they attach at the same spot, they have shared placenta

You need science, two different sacs and placentas doesn’t meaning fraternal twins, especially the same sex
