sora roadmap update: in the spirit of building this app openly, here's what we're landing soon. first, more creation tools. character cameos are coming in the next few days: you'll be able to cameo your dog, guinea pig, favorite stuffed toy, and pretty much anything else you want. you can also create cameos of generated characters straight from your sora videos. we're expecting people to register lots of crazy new cameos with this feature. to make them easier to find, we're updating the generation UI to show the latest trending cameos in real time. we're also adding basic video editing capabilities to the app, starting with stitching together multiple clips, and we'll add very powerful new features here soon. second, we're working on making the social experience much better. we are exploring new ways to use sora with your friends (versus just a global feed) and broader community. think channels that are specific to your university, company, sports club, etc. third, quality of life. the feed has quietly gotten much better recently, and there are more improvements on the way soon (shoutout to Thomas Dimson and team!). team is hard at work continuing to reduce excessive moderation of gens (we know it's super annoying). we're also working to increase the overall performance of the app to feel snappier everywhere. finally, the android version of sora is actually coming soon. please keep giving us feedback!

After a formative time at OpenAI, I’m launching Maison AGI (Maison AGI), a fashion house creating cultural artifacts for the AI era. Our first collection, Relic of Thought, is a collaboration with Ilya Sutskever (Ilya Sutskever), featuring his original artworks alongside a signature hat modeled after his iconic head. It is a study in conviction and the clarity of vision that gives thought its form. I believe we're living through something extraordinary that deserves to be remembered. Not in research papers or technical model cards, but in tangible objects we can hold, wear, and pass down. Working alongside some of the world's brilliant researchers building Claude and ChatGPT, I've come to realize they are among the most creative minds alive. Research, at its best, is an act of imagination: the ability to glimpse what doesn't yet exist and then build toward it. Many of them remain unseen, even as their work quietly reshapes our future. Though AGI progress can feel incomprehensible from the outside, its story is deeply human - full of curiosity, conviction, and creation. The fourth edition of Ather Community Day is here! The idea behind these community days actually goes back to 2016. Back then, we were a startup without a product. We started Community Meetups as a way to tell our stories and, just as importantly, learn from our owners. Those conversations shaped not just how we talked about Ather, but what we built. As Ather grew, those meetups grew with us. In 2023, they became the first Ather Community Day with around 700 people. Last year, nearly 5,000 people joined us. While the scale changed, the purpose luckily hasn't. Community Day has always been where we share the thinking behind our products. The engineering decisions. The design trade offs. The details our teams spend months, and often years, obsessing over. Some of those stories might seem small. In 2024, we spent five minutes on stage talking about a storage box 🤯. Last year, we explained how we reinvented cruise control. Most product launches don't dwell on these details. Most product launches are not aimed at the customer at all. We do, because we believe they're what make the experience feel effortless. This year is a particularly important one for us. We'll unveil the first scooter built on our all new EL platform. Our biggest product launch yet. EL is our first all new vehicle platform since the original 450. We built it with a simple objective. Bring the Ather experience to a much larger audience without compromising on what makes an Ather, an Ather. It's our entry into the mass market scooter segment and the beginning of the next chapter for Ather. And EL is just one part of the story. We'll also share what's next across the Ather ecosystem and give everyone a closer look at some of the work happening inside our engineering and R&D teams. Vitaliks mandarin fluency is a super bullish signal for Ethereum 🐂 He had an open town hall at HK where community members asked him all sorts of questions, from the easy to the difficult The hard questions were all in Mandarin so i couldn't follow those 😅 At the town hall he laid out the guiding principle for Ethereum: cooperation without domination It's especially important in today's world where a powerful person dictates terms and others have to follow, or we have no cooperation & there's chaos What this means at a technical level is that Ethereums the world computer & we need to build enough trust that developers feel comfortable building apps on top of it. Solo staking, a conservative approach to changing the protocol etc are all part of this He also spoke on how new technology is a reset & creates a level playing field where the game starts again from zero with bringing a lot more people right to the frontier We are seeing this with AI (and zk too), where a noob developer can still catch up to a veteran with good prompt engineering. Starlink just launched its first European satellite-to-phone service. Today. Virgin Media O2 switched on O2 Satellite on February 26. It is the first commercial satellite-to-smartphone data service in the UK and in all of Europe. Powered by Starlink Direct to Cell. What it does: If you're an O2 customer with a Samsung Galaxy S25, your phone automatically connects to Starlink satellites when you move beyond traditional cell coverage. No special hardware. No satellite phone. Your regular smartphone connects directly to space. O2's UK landmass coverage jumped overnight from 89% to 95%. Ola recently announced that they are bringing affordable AI to Indian developers. 𝐉𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐬 an Indian company has been providing affordable GPUs for developers across the globe since 2020. We are a little known, so I want to share our story here. 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 We are bootstrapped, building from the outskirts of Coimbatore. Started as a small team of 4, from humble backgrounds none from IITs/IIMs. Currently, we are a team of 12+. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐝 The cost of hosting GPU servers 4 years back in India was insanely high. For the first few years, we ran all our servers from a room fitted with ACs, a UPS, and a Generator, which experts claimed would not work. This helped us boost the confidence of our users, as we have redundancy for power, internet, and networking which gives us and our customers a lot of peaceful nights. Exactly five years ago Fahim & I launched the very first version of NMKR. Back then NFTs were completely new, Native Assets on Cardano just became a thing, Cardano had no support for Smart Contracts & the Spacebudz were barely 1 month old. NMKR was still called NFT-MAKER and our primary colour was blue, not green. Fahim designed the page & I built NFT-MAKER v1 in a few days, while writing my final university thesis (about creating a Metaverse on Cardano btw). There was nothing going on in Cardano, no dApps, no users, nothing. ADA price was at less than 10ct (if i remember correctly) and all of Cardano X was just Stake Pool Operators shilling their Stake Pool to other Stake Pool Operators. NFT-MAKER became incredibly popular very quickly, even though you could only mint 1 NFT at a time and the tool was super rudimentary. But people liked it and we minted I believe almost 50,000+ NFTs just with NFT-MAKER v1. Then NMKR Studio launched a few months later and changed everything. Today 5 years later, with many very high highs & low lows I look back and can proudly say: We're still here. And even though the market has changed a lot, the team has changed, cofounders left, we almost ran out of money multiple times + all the other hard things we had to do, we've adapted and have shown resilience. Taste is invisible until you try to write it down. This is probably my biggest lesson with AI building as of late. At Sundial, I get to work with really friggin' amazing analysts who know the art, and I see how much of our collective time now is now spent turning that art into playbooks or skills for an LLM. Encoding things like: "How would a great analyst actually look at this metric move?" or "What is ACTUALLY the interesting signal in this story versus noise?" or "How can we know if a product change actually moved the needle?" It's really humbling work! You write an instruction set. The LLM misses. You add more context. It still misses. You add even more. Now it's confused. You strip it back. Now it's too vague. You try a different framing. Better, but inconsistent. Works on Monday, fails on Tuesday. You go again. I've come to realize the gap between 70% quality and 95% quality is not 3 or 4 big things. It's more like 100s of small things. Which is exactly why you can't write an article about it, or copy it, or shortcut it! This gap *is* taste, quantified. The accumulated weight of a thousand small judgments you don't notice you're making, until you sit down to externalize them and realize you can't. Being good at something is not the same as being able to articulate why you're good at it. I now see two bottlenecks to making something better than today's generic AI: 1. Can you *see* what better looks like in the first place? 2. Even if you can see, can you *articulate* what that is in a way that the LLM can understand and systemize? #2 is now a new craft, the art of distilling the art. The people who can do it well are the ones building standout products.

Remember when the word recession was supposed to be scary? Canada officially entered a technical recession this week, and historically, that would have been a significant headline. It would have raised concerns about jobs, investment, business growth, consumer spending, and the overall direction of the economy. Today, it barely moves the needle. If you're like most Canadians, your reaction to the report was probably something along the lines of, "Awesome. What else is new?" Every few months, Canadians are given a new economic buzzword to worry about. Inflation. Interest rates. Tariffs. Housing bubbles. Now it's a technical recession. The media runs headlines. Politicians point fingers. Economists argue over charts and percentages. Everyone suddenly becomes an expert, while most ordinary Canadians are left wondering what any of it actually means for their day-to-day lives. As a millennial, I've spent my entire adult life hearing some variation of the same economic warning. Recession. Inflation. Housing crisis. Cost-of-living crisis. Rising interest rates. Stagnant wages. Every few years, there's a new headline, a new concern, a new reason Canadians should be paying attention. At some point, you stop paying attention. Not because you don't care. Because you've heard it all before. I'm 36 years old, and Canada has entered its 5th technical recession during my lifetime. Most Canadians couldn't tell you when those recessions happened, and most probably couldn't give you the textbook definition of one to begin with. But they don't need to. Regular people don't experience the economy through GDP reports. They experience it through grocery bills, mortgage payments, rent increases, childcare costs, and whether there's any money left at the end of the month to put towards retirement or savings. Eventually, it shows up in bigger ways: postponing children, delaying homeownership, working overtime, or realizing the future they imagined keeps moving further out of reach. What I find most interesting is that even after Canada officially entered a 'technical recession', much of the media conversation focuses on reassuring Canadians that it isn't as bad as it sounds. We've become completely desensitized to what a recession actually means. Not because the definition has changed. Because our relationship with the word recession has changed. We've spent decades normalizing economic decline until it became background noise. At some point, ‘recession’ stopped sounding like a warning and started sounding normal. That's the part that concerns me. We've become so accustomed to hearing bad economic news that we've stopped treating it as such. We've accepted that housing will be unaffordable. We've accepted that groceries will become more expensive. We've accepted that younger generations may never enjoy the same standard of living as their parents. We've accepted that ordinary milestones—buying a home, raising a family, and building financial security—are becoming increasingly difficult to achieve. A generation ago, a couple owning a home and raising a family on one modest income was considered normal. Today, two good incomes and no children are increasingly viewed as something to envy—a financial advantage or necessity rather than simply a lifestyle choice. What's remarkable is not that these things are happening. What's remarkable is how normal they've started to feel. A recession should mean something. It should get people's attention. Instead, many Canadians hear the word and barely react. Not because they don't care, but because they've become accustomed to hearing some version of economic bad news year after year. It feels like just another headline in a long list of headlines Canadians have learned to live with. And I think that's far more alarming than the recession itself. When a society becomes desensitized to decline, it stops recognizing decline as decline. It starts treating it as reality. It starts adjusting expectations downward.
