Google researcher LaurieWired warns the shift from C++ to Python in universities is creating programmers who don't understand how computers actually work: "When I was in college getting my CS degree, my year was one of the last years that was using C++ as the core language for teaching students. Actually they were switching over to Python of all languages." In this vlog, #JAMES tries to speak almost entirely in Japanese. He really seems to have a natural aptitude for languages — he speaks English, Thai, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. JAMES’s language skills didn’t just come from becoming an idol. He grew up having to switch between languages to communicate with different members of his family, so in a way, he’s been learning to listen closely, pick up accents, and switch languages depending on who he’s talking to since he was young. It reminds me of something he once said in Weverse Magazine: JAMES: “My family’s from all over the place, and when we all sit down for a meal together, I’m the only one who can speak all the different languages, so I speak in Chinese for one of them, then in English for someone else, and then Thai for another. Every time I hear “Stop learning to code. AI will do it,” I worry. That is dangerous advice. Andrew Ng nailed it. When something becomes easier, more people should do it, not fewer. When coding moved from punch cards to keyboards, demand exploded. When higher level languages replaced assembly, people predicted the end of programmers. They were wrong. Putting aside the whole politic commentary of this, to see an interview of this magnitude, being conducted in a trilingual manner is like music to my ears. I grew up like this, many of my childhood friends and I speak like this, freely flowing between all languages we know with no language barriers. The fact that they can do this, and then can pick up behind the slack and convert all of this into all three languages individually is some kind of vodoo magic. Language barriers are basically a thing of the past at this point. 👏 Thank you Lex Fridman for this if nothing else. On the topic of Russian language as a Ukrainian, I'm like Lex, I speak Russian with my Family, I don't remember Ukrainian though I knew it when I was little. But I understand Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський 100% when he focuses on differentiating the two peoples with language, but goddamit it's so good to hear him speak Russian! P.S - Asking Zelensky if he'd have BBQ with him and Joe Rogan was ... a bit too far tho

A video shared by young environmentalist Shankar Singh Bisht claims that trees have been marked for road widening in the Nag Devta forest between Bua Khal and Kandoliya, Pauri Garhwal, with some trees reportedly already cut. If this road is already wide and functional, then what exactly are we gaining by cutting an entire forest for more width? This is the same Uttarakhand where sick and elderly people are still carried 2, 5 and even 10 kilometres on dandi-kandi because their villages have no motor road. We don’t have roads to hospitals. But we have the ambition to widen roads that already exist. And then we wonder why the Himalayas keep producing Kwarab, Sirobagar, Lambagad, Pagalnala and Tota Ghati. Every tree removed from an unstable mountain slope isn’t just an environmental statistic. It can mean more erosion, more landslides and greater risk for the very roads we are widening. We celebrate “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.” Then mark thousands of trees for cutting in the name of development. If development means cutting forests to make existing roads wider while villages remain without roads at all, perhaps the question isn’t whether Uttarakhand needs development. The question is: development for whom, and at what cost?
