Doaa doesnt have a phone but our team coordinated with the journalists to get Doaa and her kids to the Refaat Alareer the next morning. After Mosab was killed and the camp got attacked, the Refaat Alareer camp was full of sorrow. Last month was so difficult on the whole Sameer team and our camp. So the team suggested getting an ice cream truck and entertainment for the children, donate here: The Sameer Project team rented the ice cream truck with 1,000 pieces of ice cream and the truck’s entertainment team. We started in the Refaat Alareer camp in Zawayde and then went to other camps in central Gaza. This ice cream day cost $3,283 with 10% commission, which includes the ice cream and the transport of the truck around 5 camps in central Gaza. This campaign was named “Gaza’s children deserve life” by the ground team in Gaza. We hope to continue with our children initiatives who have spent 21 months of their lives under bombs and 5 months in famine. After suffering extreme injuries to her shoulder, leg, and elbow from an airstrike targeting the Mosque she was praying in, Alaa came to the Refaat Alareer Camp for treatment and rehabilitation. The family evacuated South from Al Shifa Hospital during the land incursion in the North. She has been receiving daily wound cleanings and starting physiotherapy, as well as participating in camp events and school. But Alaa’s immune system is weak due to all her injuries and she recently came down with an infection that had her admitted to the hospital. But The Sameer Project’s care and support followed her there. We brought her a package of nutritions food to help with her healing, as well as some treats like nuts and pastries to lift her spirits. The cases that we support in the Refaat Alareer Camp would in any other situation, be inpatients in hospitals. Support us here: Two weeks ago, the children of Refaat Alareer camp planted some mint and basil in the camp as a way to grow their own food. They also planted a significant amount of molokhya, traditional Palestinian plant that’s turned into a stew. Farming is one of the ways people are trying to survive the famine imposed by the military occupation. Bombings specifically target farmland to intensify the famine and deprive people from vegetables. The children of Refaat Alareer camp took a two week summer vacation because of the escalating famine and lack of nutrients. The kids were dizzy and couldn’t focus in class. Support: But now summer vacation is over! Miss Hanan & Miss Mona are back to teaching with their assistant Miss Warda. The joy of the children (and their parents 😅) was indescribable. Children in the camp are having more than a meal a day and we can see life and energy come back into their little bodies. We hope flow of food continues and increases to reasonable amounts. There is new life in the Refaat Alareer Camp. Alhamdulillah. We recently welcomed 3 new members to our camp families, 3 new blessings in Zeina, Saed, and Qamar. The Sameer Project celebrated their good health and the resilience they represent with a newborn bathing ceremony, bringing together the women and the kids of the camp to wish blessings, strength, and protection on the infants and their mothers. Water was infused with rose peddles, they were cleaned, and then sweets were passed out for all to enjoy! Resistance through joy, resistance through ensuring the Palestinian identity continues on. We gave each mother baby formula and a packet of diapers. These and the tray of sweets totaled $213 after 11% commission. Support these newborns and the others that The Sameer Project are so lucky to have witnessed enter into this world by donating to our Refaat Alareer Camp Campaign link. And may they grow up to live in a liberated, free, Palestine. 3,430 rice meals feeding over 8,500 people were distributed on August 21st in Central Gaza. Total cost was $25,692 with 11% commission, support: The Sameer Project team gave out 2,430 meals in Souq Jdeed / Balata Camp in Nuseirat. This is the largest camp in Nuseirat with over 2,000 families. 760 were given to Asqalan Camp in Deir El Balah and the remaining to Refaat Alareer Camp in Zawayde. Mass distribution of rice continues with limited quantities allowed in through the borders. The military occupation continues to suffocate Palestinians in Gaza by limiting the supply going into Gaza and by the type of aid going in. This is what many people in our camp need, extra support, extra care. Donate: The Sameer Project cares for 104 families with one or more patients. They are provided with all the basics and have a 24/7 medical point that has a doctor and nurse, free medication and a carer (nurse) that does daily tours. The Sameer Project also partners with the ambulance department to send the paramedics and vehicle whenever needed. Collective support for those most vulnerable. Music classes have to stop 💔😭 Look at their smiles and faces filled with joy in their music therapy classes. One of our favorite videos comes from the music classes with Jaber and his team but sadly we will have to stop them! Help: The lack of donations are forcing us to cut down on our work, and this will include the five camps that were receiving weekly music classes, including the three camps run by The Sameer Project. We find music therapy essential and not a luxury but just like we had to reduce water by 50%, we had to cut down on our activities. Our hearts break as we are constantly advocating for aid and support to Palestinians in Gaza in the ongoing genocide. But donations are continuously dropping for mutual aid groups and some are considering closing due to lack of funds. The Sameer Project camps host around 117 families and one of them is the Batoul Camp that has around 27 vulnerable families. On June 15th, we distributed diapers and formula to those who need it for $217, including 11% commission. This included 6 packs of baby diapers and 5 adult diapers and 5 formula. Help here: The Batoul Camp will soon be closed and the families will join our other camps. This is due to lack of funds as donations dropped a lot recently. Even simple things like providing diapers and formula are not consistent due to the lack of support. Caring for 117 families with patients in a genocide is expensive and your contribution is needed. Musab is one of the most critical, and most devastating patients we have cared for under The Sameer Project. Months ago we would visit Musab nearly weekly with food parcels, nutritional help, and hygiene support, along with his medication, when he was at Al Shifa Hospital in the North. Upon evacuating to the South and being denied inpatient hospital services at Al Aqsa due to overcrowding, The Sameer Project has been in regular contact with the family to figure out how best to serve Musab. We immediately supplied him with a tent and a large food parcel with weeks worth of pantry staples. We also gave the injured child diapers and a restock of his medication. We want to do more, but in Gaza there are endless obstacles. The plan was to bring Musab and his family to one of our medical camps, with an onsite medical clinic ready to deal with any emergency. But Musab requires 24 hour electricity to run his air mattress, blender for food, and suction machine to remove secretion out of his airways. The Refaat Alareer Camp, Sawarha Camp, and Batool Camp like most of Gaza relies on solar panels for electricity. As the days become shorter and cloudier, electricity is not reliable. We are in discussion with Musab’s mother and father and ready to receive Musab when his family sees fit given the uncertain conditions. It just shows you the amount of effort and considerations that go into every decision of bringing every family into our medical camps. Help us potentially support Musab in our camp, and so many other patients in need of extra support, by donating to the Refaat Alareer Camp. Help now: That’s the case for many of the families in The Sameer Project camps and many cases get seizures due to the heat. We have multiple solar panels in our camps but they can’t provide fans for everyone, so our medical team assessed those most in need. The Sameer Project needs your support in purchasing fans for the families and money to fix some fans we already have. A fan approximately costs $525 for a new one (if found) and $280 for a used one. Refaat Alareer Camp provides shelter for sick and wounded children and their families. It was named after the writer Refaat Alareer to honor him and his legacy. Support: Commission to get cash has been around 40-45% for months now so the camp residents didn’t get cash but food and packages instead. However, thanks to your support, we recently gave each family 500 shekels each ($150). With 45% commission, the total was $8,265. Water, medication, transport to hospitals and one large meal a day are all covered by the Sameer Project. This money provides some agency and will allow them to buy things they need and want. Tomorrow, Saturday, there is a rainstorm in Gaza that will last 4 days. Unfortunately camps will get flooded and people will get sick from the cold. The genocide in Gaza didn’t end. Donate now: The Sameer Project is providing tarps, blankets and tents that are purchased from the market in Gaza. 25% of the aid is being allowed in since the “ceasefire” so prices are not affordable to most Palestinians in Gaza. On December 21st, The Sameer Project set up 3 tents in Karama Camp, Bureij, Central Gaza. The total cost was $635 with 9% commission. “I have the right to learn.” Children in Gaza are so bright, curious, wise beyond their years. But they have been stifled, learning opportunities taken from them, their educational system destroyed. The children of Gaza represent the future, and no matter how hard the occupation tries to eliminate the future of Palestine, they will not succeed as long as we have fierce, smart, strong, resilient kids who not only want to carry on, but flourish. The education tent at the Refaat Alareer Camp helps foster the spark in these children, giving them the opportunity, time, and skills to succeed in perusing knowledge. We have a teacher for the lower grades, as well as a high school educator, an art teacher that visits the camp, and a music instructor. We allow kids to be kids, to be excited about learning, to give them an escape from the harsh realities around them so they can just be like “normal” children around the world who are in school. Of course nothing is normal about the situation in Gaza. These children are EXTRAORDINARY, pursuing their studies while bombs are dropped around them. Show them your support.
