The pilot is the one that will activate it, because they are the one that will first get the emergency signal out, they can’t build such a device without having the pilot 🧑‍✈️ at heart.. They will also leave their cockpit and join the emergency deployment device.

I feel it takes about 10 seconds for the it to deploy giving pilots some time to run to the back and deploy along with the rest of the passengers
