I've lived in places with radiant floor heating like this. It can take some minutes to warm up, but once it's going it's very efficient since heat rises.

If it is sharp gravel, it is a horrible idea. If those are rounded pea gravel (it doesn't look like it), the it will work fine. It also works a lot better with 2 inches of foam board underneath, the you are just hearing the slab, and not the ground.

Everyone loves this until it leaks somewhere. Most hate paying for the repair and go back to other heat sources.

We had a home that had all radiant heat and the Mother-in-law apartment in the basement had pipes run in the concrete thermal mass like this. Even in the Missouri winters, we rarely had to turn on the heat in the upstairs unit. The whole foundation and structure was warm. This is also the best way to heat your garage, it dries your car quickly reducing rust.

Why not start at the end and work your way to the door to avoid ankle injuries?

I know it works wonderfully. The apartment I have in Moscow region has it and I love it works better than the electric element we have in our bathroom here in the states

You won’t get the heat transfer

It works!! They have been doing it that way in that part of the world for a long time.

You're right @Tonkabot1 , sharp gravel could damage pipes. Secondary air is a good isolation and you have to eliminate for good efficiency. The difference between concrete and anhydrous its 20% .This could be worth.

Very nice work and this is the right way

Poor heat transfer - too many air gaps.

Damn you barely even have to rake it out after she pours. Perfect almost.

It doesn't happen like that everywhere and not in every country!

All houses in South Korea 🇰🇷 have underfloor heating system.

I could see it being effective protecting the pex, what is the stone? What are its heat storage properties? Obviously they will pour concrete or limestone on it.

I had an apartment in Korea that had an ondol similar to this. It was okay in that it provided some heat during the winter, but it was never warm enough and the monthly gas bill to pay for the heating was already high.

This method is incorrect.Because crushed stone creates voids in screed. It's necessary to create a high density layer for underfloor heating.Instead, using XPS that produced for underfloor heating syst and applying self-leveling screed provides more efficient thermal conductivity.

My grandmother had floor heating. Even heating, no dust from forced air systems, and I think it's pretty efficient as heat rises.

This is nice for temperate weather but not suitable for the tropics

Stupid, just use gyp-crete, this is literally what it's designed for.

Would work for cooling too with water pipes.

This is going to work well. It requires less concrete to fill with almost the same thermal effect. Also because the tube is not completely encased within concrete if there is a pipe leak in the future, the repair will be easier to make because the gravel will give room to repair.

Well, by stepping on the smal sharp stones the piping may get damaged
