The AI generation relied on user input to specify the art style they wanted to render, and that was in the form of content under copyright by animation studios. It's reliant on artwork the artists did not consent to provide them, and that's theft.

I think an important bit of context is missing: Stable Diffusion (the software they're using) was created by illegally scraping the web of 5 billion images & using them to "train" the software to regenerate images. + they finetuned on the Anime. It's copyright laundering & theft

If the model is trained ONLY on public domain art or art created for the model I see no issue. I do see a major issue in using work from non consenting artist though.

They simply used the art style of an anime for the ai to derive from. I don't see this as theft. Are you stealing if u made a how to draw? Let's say idk a vegeta how to draw and u get money from it. Is it stealing for using reference and using the same art style?
