In the 1950s the United States Air Force launched a study in which cats were flown on parabolic flights to experience brief periods of weightlessness so researchers could see whether their gravity dependent righting reflex still worked. In microgravity the cats drifted and became disoriented because they had no sense of up or down, which showed that their ability to twist and orient themselves depends entirely on gravity.

Schoolyards were once filled with the voices of children, with laughter, dreams, and small backpacks carrying their hopes for the future. Today, many of these little ones are no longer with us. They were killed, perhaps alongside their entire families, leaving their seats empty forever. As for these schools, many of them no longer exist at all. In Gaza, it was not only schools that were destroyed, but an entire childhood, the dreams of thousands of children, and a future they had every right to live. How heartbreaking it is that school itself has become a stolen dream for a child in Gaza today.

The behavior in these two videos is awfully.. odd (and unfortunately something I have seen before). As someone who grew up with addicts and has had most of her life touched by addicts, this behavior is concerning. In the first video clip, he takes 7 hits in the matter of 1 minute and 15 seconds. That's not the normal smoking weed behavior or "taking a few hits to get the edge off". In my opinion, from my experiences with addicts, that is classic need-to-get-high-now behavior. Typical weed smokers take a few hits and chill.. take their time. This is not that. He seems anxious and in a rush. He's not a teenager trying to hide his pipe from his parents. This is a grown man with a career and child. Was he rushing because he wasn't supposed to be doing it? Maybe. But that doesn't explain the need to get absolutely blazed as quickly as he could with a newborn in the house.. and this same pattern is seen on video after video. This behavior would align also with the allegations Kelsey listed recently in probate court documents. If in fact he was using other substances, taking a shit ton of hits as fast as he did could explain that. An addicts brain can be a complicated one, however, once you recognize the pattern you'll see it clear as day.

One of the interesting findings from studies comparing social pain and physical pain is this: if you ask people directly which they would rather experience, most say social pain. Physical pain is extremely aversive. People dislike it intensely. When asked to imagine experiencing one or the other, they typically rate physical pain as more unpleasant than the social pain of embarrassing yourself on stage, being betrayed by a friend, or being dumped by a romantic partner. But an interesting study from about ten years ago approached the question differently. Instead of asking people to imagine pain, the researchers asked participants to recall real experiences. Some were asked to remember moments of physical pain—being in a serious car accident, falling out of a tree and breaking a bone, or some other injury. Others were asked to recall socially painful experiences—being broken up with, going through a divorce, being betrayed by a friend, or embarrassing themselves at an important work event. When recalling these events, people reported that the socially painful memories felt more painful than the physically painful ones. When I first read this study, I was a little skeptical. But then I thought back to the times in my own life when I experienced physical pain. The memory of it tends to be vague. If you’ve broken a bone, been punched, or stubbed your toe, it’s surprisingly difficult to recreate the sensation in your mind once the pain is gone. Social pain is different. It’s much easier to recall vividly. I can remember moments when I felt embarrassed, betrayed, or misled, and those memories can still bring back the emotional sting. Many of those experiences are easy to relive even years later.

Their sense of safety depends entirely on the stability of the group. Any threat to one member of the flock creates a wave of fear through all of them. Because of this the emotional impact of violent handling and mass killing is not limited to the bird that is struck but spreads through every ostrich who sees hears or senses it. When force and confinement are imposed on them the birds experience a level of fear that overwhelms their natural coping behaviors. Ostriches respond to danger with flight or alert stillness and when neither response is possible they enter a state of acute stress that includes trembling pacing vocalizing or freezing in place. Their hearts race their muscles tense and their entire body prepares to escape. When they are surrounded or trapped they cannot understand why the danger cannot be avoided. The sense of helplessness for a prey animal is not a thought but a physical shock that floods them with stress and panic. Very sad footage from September 13, 2001. Family members and friends were desperately searching for loved ones they genuinely believed were still alive. Most of these missing people were on the highest floors of the towers, some even right at the impact points. They gather at a meeting point with television crews to get a few seconds of broadcast time to get more eyeballs on their missing loved one, often describing distinguished body marks with their missing posters. Rest in Peace to these beautiful souls and love and respect to their affected loved ones.
