From the Wijerama community kitchen to countless unsung teams across the island, these efforts remind us that Sri Lanka’s greatest strength is its people — ordinary citizens doing extraordinary things. In the middle of destruction, you are bringing warmth, dignity, and hope. This is the Sri Lanka we believe in.

I have always believed that the highest duty of any public representative is to the people who have reposed their trust in us. We are accountable to them for every promise made and every step taken. It is with this conviction that, since being elected as an MP in 2014, I have published the ‘Nishobdo Biplab’ booklet every year, a transparent, detailed and verifiable record of the development work undertaken in Diamond Harbour. You, the people, made Diamond Harbour No. 1 in terms of victory margin. I am determined to make it No. 1 in terms of real, inclusive development. The BJP may deploy all the money and muscle at its disposal, but what it will never command is the trust of the people. I have no doubt that 2026 will mark the farewell tour of the BJP in Bengal. The people are ready. It’s time for 'Bidaay Jananor Pala'.

Long before Telangana became a reality, it lived in the hopes, aspirations, and unwavering resolve of its people. It was an honour to walk alongside those who dedicated themselves to this cause and to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Telangana during this defining chapter of our history. Every interaction, every gathering, and every voice raised in support of statehood reinforced the conviction that the aspirations of the people would one day prevail. Tonight marks the beginning of the holiday of Shavuot—a holiday of community and remembrance. We stand as one people, and recall the day we received the Torah and all of its blessings. One year ago today, our community at the Embassy of Israel lost two of our beloved members—Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky—in a heinous terror attack. A year later, we remember the light they brought into our lives and we mourn the hole in our hearts that they left behind.

This is what happens when you hold onto a tree and never let go as it keeps growing. Giuseppe Penone created It Will Continue to Grow Except at That Point by casting his hand around the trunk of a young tree and then leaving it alone. Over time, the tree grew freely in every direction except where the hand once pressed, preserving a single, permanent indentation. Nothing was cut or reshaped by force—the work emerged through time, growth, and restraint. Long after the hand disappeared, its trace remained in the living wood, a quiet record of how even brief human contact can leave a lasting mark on nature.
