XB-1 successfully completed its 4th–and fastest–test flight today. Here’s a view from the T-38 chase plane keeping up with XB-1, which reached a max speed of Mach 0.617 (313 KIAS)–more than halfway to breaking the sound barrier at Mach 1. Read more:

Development on the XB-35 began in 1941 as an answer to a long range bomber to strike Germany from the U.S. in the event Britain fell. It competed against the XB-36, evolved into the XB-49 amid controversies. Only one flew and all airframes were scrapped. Goodbye Beautiful Wing.🫡

Mizuno Pro M15 vs. Wilson Staff Model XB: Feel and Consistency I was so shocked by the Wilson XB I asked my fitter to also hit both of these. XB softer than M15? That’s only the beginning. XB consistency on good and average strikes was comparatively superior. The carry and total distances with XB was tighter and nearly “identical.” 👀 And wait til you hear what he has to say in the next video I post. I’ll also have some of my own impressions and numbers for you later today and a bigger comparative review article on my site later this week.

Its development paves the way for Boom’s supersonic airliner, Overture. 22 months of testing ✅ 11 flight tests ✅ Target date for XB-1’s first supersonic flight set ✅ Entire crew pumped ✅ On Jan. 28, 2025, at 8:45 a.m. CST, Chief Test Pilot Tristan “Geppetto” Brandenburg will break the sound barrier in #XB1 – going Mach 1.1 – at 34,000 ft. in the Bell X-1 Supersonic Corridor and the Black Mountain Supersonic Corridor in Mojave, California. XB-1 Flight Two was a massive success: gear extended/retracted airborne for the first time, stability issues from Flight One confirmed resolved. No major issues uncovered. Geppetto did a great job at the controls—and we're accelerating Flight Three—likely in a month or so.
